Yes... The last time Lionel ran those (a couple of years ago, which was just before Lionel's formal BTO program), I think they had 4 or 5 roadnames, each with 2 road-numbers.  And they disappeared rather quickly.  Although lots of folks like more modern equipment nowadays,  I still hold a sentimental spot for FM's.   They're my most favorite post-war style diesel.

I think it's time for a Virginian (blue/yellow) re-issue with all the Legacy upgrades, but I'd hate to see it carry a $650 MSRP.   I'm fairly certain the 1966 Lionel catalog had a Virginian FM listed for $65 if I recall correctly.  Hhhmmm... 50 years later and the list-price could be 10X!

Marty, this is a bit of a double-edged sword now that Lionel has formalized its BTO program with so much hype in an effort to help hobby shops of ALL sizes fight for pre-orders. Once Lionel sends the catalog packet along with all the pre-sales info out to shops, I think they expect a few leaks.  There are just too many LHS's out there. 

Wouldn't be surprised if Lionel's "sales kit" to dealers includes a spreadsheet of products and MSRP pricing, so dealers just need to fill in their actual selling prices. I expect we'll be seeing some very familiar-looking price lists in the next several days -- whether they be here on the forum or on dealer websites.

   I would like to see all PW type engines offered with Legacy, just like the PWC series that were offered with TMCC.

Back in the late 1980's and early 1990's, I worked in Corporate America for a company that built IBM-compatible mainframe computers.  IBM would make their product announcements by issuing what they called Ivory Letters -- multi-page documents that were shipped to customers.  Whenever "big" product announcements occurred, our company would fly product specialists to the corporate HQ in California to analyze these "big" announcements and produce training materials for the worldwide sales force.  When I think of how expensive it was to host those sessions back then compared to how easily information is accessible today online IMMEDIATELY after any kind of announcement, it's crazy!!!  

Oh well... back to the toy trains...

 You saw my reply in another thread.    What I find disappointing is that a dealer, which is a forum sponsor, disregarded and dishonored Lionel's request and rule  by releasing catalog info, including pricing, before the official release date/time.

My train store owning friend won't even tell me, and that's okay.   It is how it's supposed to work.

 

We all bemoan the lot of the LHS in modern times; how we should have integrity when choosing where to buy.

Well, it should work both ways. 

 

I rep a major music gear manufacturer in my area of the country.   If one of our dealers did this, they'd be cutoff from product for quite awhile.

At the Allegheny's reported $2200 MSRP, I'm thinking the street price will be $1625-$1675 pre-order/early-buy, and $1700-$1750 thereafter until delivery.  Then all bets are off nowadays, as some dealers seem to push street prices toward these inflated MSRP's rather quickly to give the (artificial) impression an item is "hot" or highly desirable.  There's a little of that going on with the ESE sets, yet all the dealers seem to have plenty in stock to sell.

As a point of comparison, Lionel's Legacy Y6b had a $2,000 MSRP, and dealer pre-order pricing came in slightly under $1400 before the BTO deadline, then bumped up slightly to $1450 up until the product was delivered.  Some dealers held that price after Lionel delivered, and others tried to push the price more toward the grossly inflated MSRP.

OTOH, Lionel's FEF-3 had an $1800 MSRP, and dealer pre-order pricing came in around $1400 -$1450 as well... which might imply a higher internal cost that dealers are being hit with from Lionel since the year the Y6b was catalog'd.

I admit that I thought it too. 

Now my real hope and what is in my budget this year will be the sensor car. I think these will add greatly to the fun value of the non IR engines we all have.

My sarcastic suggestion is having a mint car full of defective smoke motors.........

If Lionel wants to keep things under wraps the put every authorized distributor, authorized dealer and whom ever get their launch package under NDA. Put a little pressure on and if you violate it then you are disqualified from getting future information until after the scheduled launch.

My previous company did that withe great success, stopped the leaks almost immediately. Straighted up the channels pretty quick. 

Works well.
