In the latest 'Inside Track' there is a reference to the 'new' SP TankTrain set (6-29366) together with an additional SD40T-2 (6-38922) and additional TankTrain 3-pack (6-29765).

Does anybody have any details on these? I can't find any reference to them on Lionel's website. Are these perhaps items in the volume 2 catalogue?

Nicole, I'm sending you a link to a page from Lionel's 2003 Vol. 2 catalog at the bottom is the SP TankTrain set which came out in 2004. The set featured 2 powered SD40T-2 engines. I have the 2004 set and since I have not received my 'Inside Track'

yet, could you tell me how close the new engine looks to the older set.

Hi Paul,

From what I can tell, they look very similar. Although the new set would seem to be one locomotive and 4 tank cars. The SD40T-2 is also Legacy with all the goodies.

Below are scans of the images from my copy of 'Inside Track'. (I hope that Lionel don't mind me doing this.) Hopefully the catalogue will be out soon, and we can then see the full details.

I hope that your copy of 'Inside Track' arrives soon. I found that this issue has a lot of interesting information in it.

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for posting the pictures. I will be happy to see more of the Tank Train sets.

I have the Cibro, CN,NS and cars that look like these you posted. Hope Lionel changes the road numbers.

It will be cool to see the art work for the BOX SET of this SP set.

The price of the CN "white" TT cars went WILD this past summer. I think it probably was a case of supply and demand since it had been 10+ years since the CN set was issued. Maybe the reintro of the SP set will be good news for the CN fans in the near future.

Thanks again Nicole for your post.

I also hope that they change the numbers. Back in 2007 they remade the CN 3-bay cylindrical hopper with the rainbow striping. They remade it to a 'T' the only thing different was the number on the box. After it's release I asked a question about it at York, and their answer was that they had a lot people who wanted made a again so they made it 'just' like the old one.

I have both versions and there are a few small changes to the CN Cylindrical Hopper in the "Spectrum" or Rainbow scheme. There is an ACI label and a Consolidated stencil change between the two versions.

I would like to get this Tank Train set to have the A and B units to go with the two intermediate cars that I got several years ago.

Yes, this new set has the SP speed lettering; the SD-40s in the earlier set had SP's older block style lettering. Lionel always changes at least something on a reissue - virtually no reissues are identical to the first issue item, and this goes back to PostWar - it was certainly true in the MPC era.

Andrew

Always at least something done differently. It's a marketing thing, of course, but I think it's nice that every item made is unique.
