Greetings everybody. I am actually posting this question for a friend who just purchased a new Lionel Trainmaster transformer. He said it has only one terminal connection and he has been unable to wire it to his layout. I have done a little research and I think this unit actually requires a supplemental power pack. Is this correct?  Many thanks

With only one screw terminal, the Trainmaster your friend has, is likely a Command Control Base, a.k.a. Base 1, and not a transformer. It's designed to control TMCC equipped and similar trains by remote control.

It requires a power source (transformer) and the Corresponding Cab 1 Handheld Remote Control Unit.  Not to be confused with the Cab 1L remote, which is incompatible with this Base1.

Some transformers, were also referred to as Traimmasters but they have more than one screw terminal.  Clear as mud, right?
