Does anyone know what year / model this transformer is? AC or DC? Saw this on a youtube video.

Cool control stand.
Almost looks like an MRC TechII product for HO scale.
At 50 watts, probably won't power my Lionel 2056 steamer.
A 50 watt transformer won't power much, you need 80 to 100 watts for decent performance especially if using lighted passenger cars with the engine.

Although its rated at only 50 watts, have a feeling thats a conservative rating. A local dealer by me still has one of these powering the store layout, have run many postwar locos with this transformer with no issues. Seems to be pretty bullet proof, as the one in the local store has been there for almost 20 years.
It's powering a 2333 at a pretty good clip.
I'm surprised at the longevity of yours. Most of them have died many years ago. Not Lionel's best.
They were vastly better than either version of the 4690 MW.

It's running a 2333 in the video!
I've repaired one of these, pretty simple chopper circuit. TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) folks- it's that simple. Just like you want to protect your trains- you need to protect your electronic transformer too.
