I'd really like to have a smooth running Lionel General. Last year I purchased a Lone Ranger general from a set break up to repaint. The repaint went fine, but the engine just doesn't run very well.
1. Can I run the engine on my current layout using my transformer? By that I mean setting it at 18 volts then using the remote?
2. Will it have the slow speed performance, smoke output, and sounds like a Lionchief Plus, or is Lionchief a stripped down version?
3. Will the motor be quiet like a Williams engine for example, or will it still growl like a postwar steamer, such as the Lone Ranger version?
Probably dumb questions, but I'd really like a Lionel general that operates well, which hasn't been the case in the last couple years from my experience and reading on-line about them.
