I have a PRR M-1a which has thrown one traction tire, and now last night, the remaining traction tire.  I have placed it back in the "groove" on the driver, but after a turn or two, it throws it again.  Does this mean it is worn and needs to be replaced?  I have never had this happen.  How often do they need replacing?  What kind of wrench is used to remove the bolt holding the drive rod?

Thanks,

Galen

My experience is that once the tire gets "stretched out," it'll be thrown time and again depending on the stress put on it--uphill, heavy load, etc.  Once a tire has been thrown more than once, the writing is on the wall . . . And don't you just hate to change those suckers?  I use track pliers (carefully) to remove that bolt . . .
