This is just something I am wondering if it is possible.

I have one MTH PS1 geep that has been great!

I bought a MTH Railsound geep that I needed the body in a roadname I wanted. So and now have this Railsound frame and all that is just sitting. I really hate the way the sound cuts out when you drop the power to change direction.

So, is there anyway to add a BRC type backup voltage to keep the sound on, much like PS1, when the power is dropped momentarily? Or is it beyond what those Railsound boards can handle?

John,

I believe that the MTH “Loco Sound” was just before Proto 1. The unit is 30-2638-0.

It has conventionally operated horn and bell and the engine sound. But if there is no power, such as when changing directions, the engine sound dies immediately.

With Proto 1, they had the battery to cover that few seconds between power loss.

I was just thinking about adding some battery/BCR system to the Loco Sound engine but did not know if it had been done before or if anyone knew if it was possible to add such a back up to the Loco Sound board.

You can't add a battery to this. The "Loco sound" equipped engines came out the same time Proto 2 sounds came out. This was to give operators of the  Rail King line a economical choice as to whether they wanted Proto 2 sounds at about a hundred dollars more or Loco Sounds that was the standard option. When MTH used QSI sounds they offered the engines with Proto Sounds or the Horn or whistle for the option choices. This is entirely different then the 2 sound systems mentioned.

Unfortunately no way to add battery that I have seen.  Locosounds was after PS-1 and is unique in that it has conventional speed control (used tach reader like PS-2) with synchronized smoke for models with smoke.   It is an easy conversion to PS-2 though since you already have the tach reader and harnesses.   G
