Hi All,

As I have done in the past, I ran my Hanukkah train at our congregation's Hanukkah party.  This year's train had two new members:  The Lionel Happy Hanukkah Box Car and a newly decaled Hanukkah Berkshire pulling the consist.

Here is the video of it running:

Here are pictures of the updated Berkshire (after decals were added) and after I swapped the chassis with a Lion-Chief Berk chassis.:

Here's our 2017 Hanukkah train. It consists of:

  • LionChief Thomas
  • Lionel's new Hanukkah boxcar (which I believe is Lionel's first-ever Hanukkah-specific item)
  • K-Line Hanukkah boxcar from 1994
  • Lionel 6411 flatcar with a menorah adhered to it

The toy train fan is our 18-month-old granddaughter. Our other grandchildren also love our trains.

Granted, our Hanukkah train is not on a par with Allan's, but we're having fun with it!

Happy Holidays to all!

Keith

This is GREAT! I would like to do something like this, on a Lionel prewar train! Any suggestions on a project like this? Any help and advice that you can share will be GREATLY APPRECIATED! I sincerely thank you in advance and hope to hear back from you soon!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Updating engines/rolling stock as needed is pretty easy.  When I did mine, I had an idea as to what I ultimately wanted.  Then it was simply a matter of figuring out how to redo the decals to reflect Hanukkah.  That usually involved paint and then me making decals.  To make them, I scanned the side of one of the K-Line Box Cars and then cleaned up the scans to make my decals.  I then added them into a Word Document so I could scale them to fit as well as change their color, etc to match the car.

When printing the decals, they either went on clear decal paper (if the background of the car was light) or on white decal paper (if the background of the car was dark or if I wanted the label to be white).  For the "presents", I found pictures of Hanukkah Wrapping Paper that I then scaled and printed on sticker paper so I could "wrap" pieces of scrap wood.

I've attached all my decals/paper below, so feel free to use them as you need!

I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Thank you so so very much Allan!!!!! They're BEAUTIFUL!!! By the way, who did your customizing? Whoever it was, did a smashing great job!!! If you will, please drop me an occasional line on how the progress will be on my Lionel Prewar Train!!! Also, did you get the image of the family from the K-Line cars?

Jeff

Jeff,

I did all my customizations myself.  Being an engineer (mechanical engineering) helps.

I did not scan the family, but I'll try to get it tonight scanned and cleaned up and then will attach it to this string.
