Hi Chris,

 

Nice job on a layout that looks like a lot of fun to operate.

I felt like something was missing from the layout - couldn't figure out what it was. Then it hit me - I had already done it on the layout I built for my Uncle - an upper level!

 

 

I made mine 34'' x 8' & used my Uncle's old MTH track, since 031 Fastrack isn't out yet. I had to remove a few spurs & I relocated the town to the top level, but I think it worked out better this way

I built the layout on the floor & then hooked up the wires & landscaped it. Once it was done, I lifted it on top of the existing board ( with a little help from the wife!)

 

Next step is to add the rock wall like I did with my Uncle's

Good luck on your layout. There's a guide book of Charlotte put out by Moon Publishing that will tell you where to shop and eat. Also how to cope.

Great job! I've got my favorite engine packed and I am headed over! Keep up the good work.

Wow you did a great job  Cant wait to see some videos of it. Thats also a very nice looking Rock wlook how did you make it?

 

The rock wall is made out of ceiling tile that is cut & stacked.  Once i glue it in place, I paint it with a mix of gray, black & tan flat latex paints.  I then add some ground cover - instant rock wall

If you drive on the Interstate just out of Chattanooga (SW) you should see some rock walls that look very similar to yours if memory serves me correctly. I can remember many years ago driving through there and thought it looked like ceiling tile 'rocks' that I'd seen in magazines!

Looks good Chris you work fast.  Welcome to NC, I think there is a TCA show scheduled for Charlotte in Sept.  If you're interested I'll look up the date and post it tonight.

John - its 14x6 and then the yard is another 3 feet. The top part is 8'x33"

Thanks for the comments everyone. The best part is seeing my daughters face when I run them at night with the lights down. She likes to come up each night before bed and wants me to put on steam engines. The top part was defiantly a great addition as she loves to watch that train that's it goes over the other ones. Let me know the date for the tca show.

Chris the next Charlotte TCA meet is not in Sept. it is Nov. 10th (sorry senior moment).  The Southeastern TCA web site shows it to be held at Pritchard Church, sorry I'm not familiar with the location but if you need help finding it I will be glad to contact Ken and get directions for you.

Here's what was done this week -

 

working on the road - I just painted it for now - not sure if I'm going to put down a "real" one - depends on if we buy the house or not. For now, it works fine -

 

 

Finished the other rock wall -

Got most of the work done on the other tunnel too -

started work on the farm scene - then I ran out of ground foam - doh!
