I have a C&O legacy berkshire that on one of the drivers the screw keeps coming loose and then will jam the side rods. Although I keep it tight it but it always seems to back out after about an hour or so of running time. Is there something I could use to prevent it from backing out? Any thoughts?

Loctite is too powerful for the little tiny screws on our trains. I use clear fingernail polish. It works well and still allows removal of the screw later.
I HAVEN'T TRIED THIS ON TRAINS YET, BUT I PUT A TINY DROP OF ELMERS GLUE ON MY EYEGLASS SCREWS. THEY HAVEN'T COME OUT SINCE.
I recommednd using "Blue" Loctite. Which has the same "staying power as the red Loc-Tite, but allows you to remove the fastener in the future, if need be.

I second the blue loctite - it's what I use. But if you don't want to spend the $, Elmer's is certainly worth a try. I have used it satisfactorily in somewhat similar cases.
I don't know about small parts, but my old drag car had a shifter tower that kept coming loose and I used the blue loctite on the screws holding it to the trans tunnel. I had to heat them with a torch to get them back out.
