Nice surprise...MTHRRC searchlight car

I recommend changing the bulbs to bulb-type leds if you run command control. If not you run the risk of melting the plastic light covers.

Thanks. Good idea. I don't run in command, but did notice that these give off a lot of heat. I was looking into ordering some LEDs from Scott's Odds & Ends for some accessories anyway.

I couldn't help it ...it's so shiny and it lights up

I got mine yesterday and had a couple of screw in LED's from Dan's Drumheads and more. I don't have a pic yet but I had the car under the tree where I have the DCS Commander and the regular bulbs the car comes with do get very hot with 18V going into them.

The control nob on the center of the car for me turns the lights either all on, or turns one or the other off. I cannot turn off both lights. Is your cars the same way?

Also, can you turn the heads 360 degrees? I turned them slightly but dont want to destroy anything. I am assuming they can be turned all the way around.

Cattle car next year, this is a really great looking set so far. I am hoping a caboose comes in 2013!

No not that one. You need a screw in type for the searchlight car.

I almost melted my standard gauge searchlight lenses, so that's why I switched to LEDs. You think MTH would have put LEDs in initially or installed resistors to cut back the voltage for command control running, similar to what K-Line did on their smoking O gauge cabooses.

Great looking car,is this the 2011 club car.when i went to their site,2011 club car is the gondola,but the number 11-70063 locates the searchlite car,am i missing something.

Just got mine yesterday... I agree LEDs are the way to go with this one. Haven't had time to look at my pre-war version as yet, but didn't L have openings up top to allow some heat to escape?

I don't have a 2820, but on my 2620's the lens is glass, aren't the original 2820 lens glass as well? The heat wouldn't bother a glass lens, although, some holes to vent the heat would still be nice.

That is a sweet looking car, as is the hopper, kinda wish I had started buying that series of cars!!

Does anyone know if they still have any of the previous years cars available?

According to the statement in the back of the 2011 LCT catalog, members of the club can buy previously issued club cars. I assume that means subject to availability.

I also see them on ebay every now and then and the Buy/Sell forum here.

The searchlight car is the 2011 O gauge tinplate club car. They put a picture of a gondola instead.

While I'd love to have some one day, O gauge is it for me for now.

The only problem is if you are a new member you can't log in to the club. I contacted them about the MTHRRC. I was told that they are having issues with their provider and can not enter any new members. They are going to get a new Internet provider.

I was told this on Nov. 10 and I still can't log in.

Hi guys - following up on this post since I just picked up the Army Air Corps version of Keith's tinplate searchlight car.  Does anyone have a vendor AND part number for a replacement LED bulb?  I've looked through the forums and on-line, but I'm not sure which screw base bulb is correct for this car.  Thanks!

Gentlemen,

   My original Red Lionel 2620 Flood Light Car has one single spot light, the light has no plastic to it what so ever, full glass lens held with a stainless steel spring type lens locking clip, the spot light is mounted on Cast Iron Arms.  No Lionel plastic Insig on lens, so nothing to melt.  However I use a Williams GG-1 to pull the Tin Plate 2600 work train most of the time, and with the new motors in the Willimas engine, the bulb in the flood light car never gets warm enough to damage anything.  My Reproduction Green MTH 2800 series double Flood Light Car has glass lenses also, nothing to melt either.

Got to say your new Lionel Flood Light Car looks way cool, might have to invest in

another one, for the 263E Work Train, would be cool with double crane cars and double flood light cars.
