PS3 Upgrade Lighting Problems

What kit did you purchase? is it a ps 3/2 board or a ps 3 Deisel board there is a difference in the boards and sound files!

Why take the old marker lights out?  Just rewire them as needed and use them, they're already LED's and would be compatible with the diesel board.

The only caveat I have seen is sometimes the plugs were wired reverse polarity compared to the PS3- but that's just re-pinning them to match polarity.

Exactly, hence the recommendation to rewire them as needed.

It is a PS3 Diesel upgrade kit.

Oops, newbie mistake on that one. I pulled all the original lights thinking I had to use the PS3 LEDs that came in the kit. Noted for future PS3 upgrades.

Too late now.

If you are using the 50-1912 PS3 diesel upgrade kit you need to load BOTH the sound and chain file for a PS3 SD50 to get the lighting to function correctly. The sound file alone won't correct the lighting issue.

Thank you, I only downloaded the sound file. I found a SD50 PS 3.0 file, so I will download the files tonight.

I am happy to report that updating the PS3 chain/flash file fixed the lighting issues. Everything works advertised. A little snafu for my first PS3 upgrade, but overall it was not bad. Thanks for the help.

Bueno.

Going forward just remember that both the chain and sound files for the locomotive you are upgrading are required. The files loaded in the board out of the box are test files designed to make all the light outputs illuminate, so they can be tested for functionality.

Also note that if you're replacing a PS/2 board with the PS32 board, or doing a steam upgrade that uses the PS32 board, the process is different.  You do NOT use the factory PS/3 chain file, but rather one of the specific PS32 chain files for the PS32 board.  However, you can use either 3V PS/2 sound files or PS/3 sound files with the PS32 board.  Some PS/3 sound files may not function correctly, but many will.

For my future reference, is the 3V PS2 headlight also compatible with a PS3 board? I searched the forum, but did not find a clear answer.

There is no 3V PS/2 headlight that I'm aware of.  PS/2 standard bulbs are 6V incandescent, they're not compatible with the PS/3 diesel board.

Thank you for clarifying that.

PS-2 5V board (5 volt processor uses 9V battery), PS-2 3V (3V processor uses 2.4V battery).  Both use 6V bulbs. G
