I think I can help. I just finished painting and decaling a MTH GP-38 as shown on some of their paper, in order to have a dummy to operate  with a power unit Painted and Decaled by Jeff Shon. I have also Painted and Decaled 4- gondolas(older Atlas Gondolas) with sand loads plus one Caboose. The next R.J. Corman project was The Lexington Dinner Train. I used   Milwaukee F-3's that were part of Lionel's Service Station Special by putting a Frank Timko can motor in each unit and by finding a power unit so I could have twin motors . I also installed a PS-2 up-grade in the F units. They were then painted and decaled for the Bardstown Dinner train. I painted and Decaled 3 Passenger cars for the Lexington Dinner Train. The Dinner Train decals were custom made by Stan Cedarleaf in Phoenix, AZ. All other Decals were furnished by Highball Graphics, P.O. Box 57, West Ossipee, NH 03800. PH(603)367-8637; Fax(603) 356-0118. They had "O" Scale Decals for the GP units, other decals were enlarged from HO decals they have in stock. This can become an expensive under taking. I has been fun and I enjoyed running the Sand train and Dinner train @ the R J CORMAN Christmas Party.

Thanks trains41,

I believe it can get expensive, I live in Clearfield where they have their largest branch line service, and would really like to get a couple of Locomotives and rolling stock made up. Its too bad no O scale manufacture has went to them to allow for production of their units. I find it interesting though that HO and N has some locomotives for them. I don't know what the story is there but hopefully one day they will make some in O.

Also could you tell me what color of paint you used?

Thanks,

Jarrod

Hi Jarrod, I will send you some pic’s of my RJ CORMAN project . My cost for the project will be near if not over $1000.00. 3 0r 4 years ago I discussed with RJ CORMAN people and Rocky at Dixie Union Train Shop in Mason, Ohio the possibility of getting MTH to run some “O” Gauge RJ CORMAN equipment and it was determined that the market would not be large enough to make the run feasible. As a result of that effort I decided to under take painting and decaling of the pieces I wanted. Jeff Shon custom painted a PS2 SOO LINE GP- 38, then I picked up on E-Bay a Proto- Sound GP- 38 and Painted it my self since Jeff retired from doing custom work. I pickup old, junk Atlas Gondolas on E -Bay rebuilt them and painted them. I used a MTH Extended Vision Caboose for repainting. Living in Lexington made it easy to take pictures for reference. I used Floquil Paints, Caboose Red and a Grey with Sliver added to paint the silver and grey areas, I did not paint any roofs White. Decal sets were $16.00 per engine and rolling stock. The 3 MTH Rail King Passenger cars I used for the Lexington Diner Train were decaled with white letters and they were custom made from my art work, cost of those decals was $60.00. Painting the items was easy and were straight forward except the two F unit I had problems masking the red strip around the front of the units. I did get professional help with that masking. Please send me your E-Mail and I will send you the Pic’s.

Here are some pictures of the hopper cars that I painted.  Still debating on if the red needs to be brighter?  I have looked at alot of their locomotives and rolling stock,  it's all depending on the light in the photo.  Also the CP SD40 will become a RJ Corman unit along with another SD40 and a GP38.20150318_13011920150318_13012920150318_13014020150318_13084420150318_130851

Here's an update,  I'm just getting back into finishing some  of last year's projects.  Granted this is my first paint job,  I have to go back and do the red again,  but I have learned alot and soon the decals will be put on for the finished product.  What do you  think?  I'm always looking for advice.
I think for my SD40-2 units I'm going to try and air brush,  this one is done by rattle cans,  krylon fusion paints.

Yeah some of their units had a white roof,  I believe all the units in Clearfield have the white roofs that's why I kept it.
As I looked at their pictures they had a couple different paint schemes.

Looks good, NS1719.  I see your engine has a white cab roof, but the in pic of the prototype it's red.

Just curious.

What a great topic!!

i just sent MTH an email a few weeks ago asking about the possibility of RJ Corman in O gauge.

i lived and worked in Frankfort, KY for a little over 10 years, and loved seeing their trains!

On on a side note, Mr. Corman was a fantastic person, and a great supporter of the military. He let us land our helicopters on his airstrip numerous times, always personally came out to greet us, and bring snacks! His story was really interesting!

Thanks for emailing MTH,  I emailed them last week as well,  maybe they will see there are a few people interested!

From what I  hear Mr Corman was indeed a great man,  not many would do the things he has done.

Custom "O" Decals "Dave", These are your decals on the hoppers. They turned out well even thought its been over a year. Thanks again for doing these up for me. Depending, in the future I might be ordering another sheet, if I get around to another 6 hoppers. I actually have some people interested and I may sell a few so I will have to do more cars.

Thanks,

Jarrod
