SGL Reading G-3 Pacific Options

I can't answer your question directly.  I can tell you that the fellow that owned SGL didn't like flywheels and would not use them in his models.  It was a shame because the models themselves were great but I believe most of his potential customers not only wanted but would have expected the kind of performance that comes with a flywheel.  So you might want to see about the feasibility of adding a flywheel or making sure that any replacement motor has a flywheel.

Try contacting harmonyards on this Forum. He has remotored Lionel Reading T-1s and may be willing to try something for you.

SGL was owned by Sam Lenhart. He was a long time Reading fan and model train dealer. It it a shame he was so anti flywheel. I really wish he put them in, as adding command control would be a no brainer.

I'm hoping to do the same to mine. I never realized that it doesn't have a flywheel, but noticed that it runs very different than most of my other engines.

I'm just looking forward to it pulling my new Lionel RDG passenger cars when they arrive.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Never thought fly wheel might be the issue.  I'll follow through on inquiries.  Having been a Reading fan, it is a shame he didn't produce more models.  I also have a set of the King Coal passenger cars and they are also beautiful models.  Sure would like to have seen a genuine Reading K-1  2-10-2 or I-10 consolidation.  T-1s have been over worked.
