On the positive side, It's a chance for those who like western railroads to have some sharks on the layout.  Since imagination is a major component in the enjoyment of model railroading, I don't see anything wrong with someone having Daylight Baldwin shark-noses or Santa Fe FA2's, or any other fantasy version of a model, if they so choose.

All of the prototype sharks were sold to only three railroads:  Pennsylvania; New York Central; and Baltimore & Ohio.  A few NYC sharks had second owners: Monongahela RR; and Delaware & Hudson.

The only thing about this that bothers me is that you had to ask, and I don't blame you.  I have always thought that it would be responsible of Lionel and MTH to note in their respective catalogs, that something is in a fantasy scheme.  It can be misleading otherwise, and "sets up" some unsuspecting buyer who might feel he has been deceived when he learns that he has purchased a "never was" model.

Thanks, HOT WATER and Tom. Just as I suspected; but I enjoy the engines anyhow and to add to the chicanery I head up a set of Daylight passenger cars with these RF (freight) engines. After all, all modeling is pretend and I go for colorful. Love my Lionel TM Demonstrators and I run them with any railroad I please.  Mike

Of course, the Michigan Northern RF16's are the ex-D&H RF16's which are ex-Monongahela RF16's which are ex-New York Central RF16's 1206 and 1216.  Two locomotives recycled 3 times and are currently in pretty sad shape.

The two are still in what's left of the D&H paint job.
