I went to run a couple of trains the other day and could not get the two tracks to power up. I looked at the two TPCs to see if there were any problems. None were found. Then I checked some of my controllers and found that two of the wires going to the power section of my Block Power Controller had come loose.

Now I have four 135 watt transformers connected to two TPC 400’s an Action Recorder, Accessory Motor Controller, Accessary/Switch Controller and the Block Power Controller. They are all inter connected. I reconnected the two power wires on the BPC and everything worked.

Then yesterday I tried to check the operation of my Ross switches with the DZ2500 switch machines controlled by the DZ Data Wire Driver. I have the switches on my four way yard switch programmed as Routes 1-4 along with  an 054 switch on the mainline. I also have a crossover and a passing track on the inner line.

I could only get two of the routes to work and none of the other switch machines. How is it that I lost the programming? Did the fact that the wires came loose on the BPC cause them to lose the programming?

Also, the power to the passing track now comes on when I address the main inner track. This never happened before. The power to the passing track has always be addressed independently.

Was the BPC the cause?

It looks like I’m going to need to reprogram everything. What a pain.

I tried operating both the ASC and BPC and although I can hear the relays click they don’t function. I’m going need to climb under the layout trace all the wiring to see which device is supposed to control the power to the track. I wish I had made notes during construction that would have avoided the need to do this. I will be making copious notes including a wiring diagram.

Once I do that I’ll need to open the two of them up to see if there was any damage to the copper tracings on the circuit boards. I can’t believe both devices failed at the same time.

The two TPCs were not affected and still control power to the two main lines.
