Alan,

  You are amazing, I love it, plus all of the roof detail. I know you could sell anything you build (and you do) but just the detail parts alone, that stuff is just not out there to buy prebuilt.

Nice work Alan, great looking structure. I continued work on my track gang crewman this week. Figure #1 has been painted. He isn't the greatest but since this is my first full sculpt in this scale I'll find some place to put him on the layout. He suffers from a slight degree of "scale creep," meaning his proportions grew a little during the sculpting process. He's more close to 1/43 scale than 1/48. His other ailment is "gigantus melonitus" (his head is too large!) but since I've got a pretty big melon myself I'll give him a pass!

I've also included pics of Figure #2 starting with the wire armature and progressing to the present state. I am using Kneadatite epoxy putty for this guy. I find it a little easier to work with it rather than Sculpey, but it does start curing as soon as it's mixed. All that's left to do is add the hands and pry bar, trim a little around the boots, and he'll be ready for paint.

Like Lionel’s USRA double sheathed box car, these 2 MTH versions contain the same high end detail at a much lower cost. I actually think both companies have them made by the same supplier. Atlas were nice but way to heavy for 3r.

I don't think there is a thing wrong with the melon on your first project, we are most critical of what we do, if you would not mention the head size no one else would see it. Even after your mention it looks fine to me, great job. Actually he looks like one of my train buddies.

I myself am working to blend my backdrop into the layout, the backdrop actually runs down the center of the layout, because of the layout being long and narrow with a complete walk around. I am attempting to make the disappearance of the train look more natural than just going behind the backdrop edge.
