I do not have the Lionel stock # or year for this engine It was purchased at an estate sale along with the B unit and a # 217 non powered A unit in what appears to be "new condition" with little or no run time

My plan is to give it to my Granddaughter and her husband for a housewarming  gift to use under their Christmas tree. When I tested it I found that it runs fine but the sound is scratchy and with a lot of static. I cleaned up the pick up rollers but that did not help. Can  anyone identify the year it was produced and the stock number so I can see if a replacement sound card is available? Or does anyone have a sound card in good working  condition?Texas Special 218 IMG_3370

Thanks,

Joe

Does the sound get better if you go faster? We have a conventional Wabash FT (early 2000s) where the sound will be mostly static, pops, and clicks, until you get up to, maybe, 10 volts or so. Unfortunately, at that voltage the engine is already going warp speed. We ended up wiring the motors in series, which got the comfortable running voltage high enough that the sound would work.
