I have a TMCC steam loco that I'm trying to run under legacy with legacy base. While trying to control the engine with cab1l or cab2 the engine has a high starting speed. I tried resetting the stall and momentum but still has no low speed control. legacy base is owned by my club. I own the cab1l.  I can control whistle, bell, and it responds to the throttle but no low speed control. I have no issue when running conventionally or with TMCC1

Any thoughts on how to correct this issue.

unless you are not explaining it correct a TMCC engine will not respond to legacy commands.

6-28065 NYC 4-6-4 HUDSON W/ RAILSOUNDS from early 2000. Upgraded with TMCCC and command railsounds. Runs fine with TMCC command base and CAB1.  I'm trying to run this engine on my club layout that has legacy base installed. I'm using the CAB1L which I thought could talk to the legacy base to control TMCC engines. I had a club member try to run the engine from his CAB2. Speed response was the same. High starting speed and no low end speed control.

I don't understand the question "what mode are you setting for the engine". I was hoping for plug and play. The only thing I did was to make sure that the CAB1L was communicating with the legacy base. I could blow the whistle, ring bell, change direction from the CAB1L.

I just ran this on my test track in command mode with TMCC/CAB1. Everything works in TMCC(direction control, whistle, bell, rear coupler, normal startup speed and low end speed control.

Upgraded to TMCC using what products?  If this was upgraded using the ERR AC Commander, you need to set the engine type during your TMCC ID configuration. 

As for the mode question, when you configure a locomotive with the CAB2 under Legacy, you have a choice of various operating modes, CAB1, TMCC, R100, and Legacy.  I'm suggesting you set the operating mode to CAB1 instead of the current setting.

The CAB1L can talk to Legacy just fine, I use mine all the time with no issues for numerous engines.

 

After doing some research and locating a Mike Reagan video about the differences between TMCC and legacy I believe I know what the problem is. I think Gunrunnerjohn is correct about setting the correct mode.

Since I'm using CAB1L with a legacy base I believe that I will have to reset the engine ID in the Legacy base to TMCC mode. I assume that someone else in the club programmed settings into the legacy base that are not compatible with my loco. Since I only own a CAB1L and the club owns the legacy base I will need to locate the clubs CAB2 and set the correct mode for my engine id. 

Mike Regan's  video explains the setting and indicates that they are stored in the base. Since I don't own any legacy engines I didn't know about having to program the engine settings into the base. I assumed the CAB1L would work that same as the original TMCC set up. Like the say a little knowledge is dangerous!

I will post the results next time I can get down to the club.
