Not sure this is the correct forum but here is my current problem.

VL Bigboy runs great , remove the BB and put the VL Hudson  runs great.

Next day

VL Bigboy placed on the track, power the track and the engine starts smoking and making noise. Headlight is NOT  flickering. I know this is not right so the track power is turned off and VL BB is taken off the track.

Place the VL Hudson on the same track , power up, no noise or smoke until the engine # is identified on the cab 2, engine runs great.

I have tried switching engines 3 times and get the same result.

All comments appreciated.

Sounds like the TMCC signal isn't being received.  Check the handrails for any bends or shorts.  Measure them to the boiler shell and make sure they're not shorted to the shell.  My VL-BB comes up pretty quickly in conventional if the TMCC track signal isn't there, so you won't see any flashing lights if it's not receiving anything.

If it's not the antenna, it sounds like something is amiss inside.  A common issue is the TMCC receiver perched on the RCMC board, it has been known to come out of it's socket and you lose the command ability.

Thanks for the advice, it was followed with the exception of "looking inside". The tracks are clean, engine on the track with the command signal.

Steps taken:

Find original invoice dated 12/22/14

Look up and read Lionel's contact information

Reprogram the engine as per the exact instructions that includes the word -set-(this was not hit yesterday)

Engine runs GREAT

Thanks for the help

Merry Christmas

Brent
