Lionel delivered its Lionchief Plus 2.0 model of Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal 0-6-0T steam switcher #15 (2032020) in 2020. It’s the smallest O gauge steam engine model in my collection. Lionel lists its length as 8.5 inches. Its small size and unusual design seem like a good subject for weekend photos.

Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal was a waterfront railroad that handled freight cars floated on barges across New York harbor from New Jersey to Brooklyn. The railroad had 11 miles of track at its peak and used steam locomotives until 1963. It operated until 1983, when it was acquired by the New York Cross Harbor Railroad.

Model Railroader Cyclopedia – Volume 1 – Steam Locomotives, by Linn H. Westcott, has a drawing on page 32 of a 1910 Alco 0-6-0T industrial steam switcher that appears to be the prototype for Lionel’s model. It shows a length of about 32 feet (8 inches in 1:48 O scale) over coupler faces with 44-inch driving-wheel diameter.

Neither of my model railroads looks like Brooklyn or the BEDT, so I ran #15 with two boxcars and an unlettered caboose on my 10’-by-5’ layout. The model of #15 looks very small compared to the structures and scenery.

Both units are full TMCC/power.  Miss K-Line.

This past weekend, my club traveled to setup at the Great Scale Model Train Show in Timonium, MD.  Our layout this time was 26' x 56' with a 37' operational yard in the center (and all this was done by 6 members -- half of our club).  This was our second year doing the April Timonium show, and we enjoyed ourselves so much that it looks like this will be an annual setup for us.

If you check out some of the pix above, and the following shot, you will see that we were placed right next to the building's power panels and transformers.  This caused some issues with some of our Legacy locomotives and caused them to stop in the same locations, so we set up a very makeshift "Faraday barrier" (see the photo below) consisting of two unused extension cords attached to the steel superstructure of the building with alligator clips.  This fix was about 95%+ effective in solving the problem.  Looks like we will have to add a small roll of chicken fence wire to our traveling tool kit...

Lots going on this week......we've (the River City 3 Railers) been participants in Ashland Rail Days since 2010 and this year was no exception......a great event with tons of people, great food, great fun and great trains!

@MELGAR, Mel that 0-6-0 looks right at home on your smaller layout.

@CAPPilot boy that really is "Out of your wheelhouse".  Very nice too.

@Andy Hummell, very nice as usual.  Is the dark wire draped over the wooden boxes the extension cord?  And another question that never dawned on me before, Do all of the modules incorporated into this layout belong only to the 6 members setting up or are other members modules included.

@trumptrain, excellent contribution as usual.

@Christopher2035, excellent photography.  I love what you did with the depth of field.  You must have used a digital camera, not a smart phone.

Yes, the wires draped over the boxes are just extension cords.  I was kind of surprised at how well they worked.

And yes, the modules used were just ones owned by the 6 who participated.  While other members' modules are available if needed, we rarely use modules of members not participating in the event.  It does occasionally happen, but there are usually special circumstances involved.

Photos of my scale model of the Frisco Depot that was here in Springfield, MO. I think I grew up in this depot as I lived only 2 blocks away from it. One of the main items on my layout. Hope you enjoy and have a great weekend.

@Andy Hummell, thanks for the answer Andy.  That's a good size layout for modules from only 6 members.

@Roger Wasson,  some southwest flavor in MO.  No one can say the Frisco didn't have style.

Here’s a pair of custom painted Lionel Conrail SD 60s nonpowered units that my son Steven purchased at a train show. Long story that I won’t get into here, but we had two appropriate powered chassis and he motorized them and got them into service.
