Sure looks like one, and your description sounds like one. I'm a sorta student of Gerstner chests. Handmade, top of the line, still being made today in the US. Of course your Father's tools are beyond value, but maybe so is the chest... don't clean it or refinish it please. Leave it just the way it is and enjoy it!

Yes, They are very nice. I have one too, given to me by my friend.

This might seem more like a Christmas Carol...with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come..

Currently, this is my "layout," which is just an oval on my workbench, in my basement.

This was my past switching layout before we moved.

This is, what I hope, my future layout will look like.

Sorry about the mess guys, but it is a sign of progress. It will all be cleaned up for the convention in September.

My layout starts at the door to the train room, with a real cool sign that forum member Chester7 (Chad)  made for me.

Step through the door, and I have my multi purpose entry area with a yard above my workbench. Where the yellow ladder is standing there will be a representation of the Milwaukee Road Short Line Bridge. In the corner to the left is my dispatch desk...

and to the right is the actual entrance to the layout.

The train layout takes up most of two walls and area of my multipurpose room.   It is the first thing one notices when coming in the door.

Vintage stereos and TV surround sound takes up the other two walls and are not pictured here.IMG_2684
