I'm leaning towards #6019, I like the perks that go with it, and also #6001 since its unusual (did they make a gray version).
From what I can find #6019 & 6023 were in service until March 1956.

The LionMaster one that negotiates O-31 curves and switches. Anything bigger and I’m not interested...

My $250 brass Williams loco. It's big and runs great....not as detailed as the new Lionel unit......but the cost difference.....it will do.

If you mean the New York Central, then no, there never were any "gray" Niagara" locomotives.

I don't need another one, as I already have an MTH Premier model, and a Sunset/3rd Rail model.
I wish I could swing one but that's a little out of my league.
Maybe it's just me but five smoke units. With my luck lately...
I'm not.....LOL
NOTA. (None of the above.) The Selkirk front end is caboose ugly. And I wonder what that vapor coming from the tender will do to the track. Will it incease oil film on the track.
I have 2 CCII Niagara's, completely rebuilt from the ground up and they have the dual head lamps, so its probably going to be the 6005.
I am thinking a box of Niagara Corn Starch is more in line with my budget. Great looking engine though.

I can't make up my mind, either the 6005 or the 6023. Single headlight or dual headlight. I can't afford both. In fact I am really pushing the budget to get one, but I am.
As far as the 6019 goes, I am already a member of LCCA and unless they come way down in price I will order mine from Charles Ro. His early buy price is $300.00 less than what LCCA wants.

LCCA price is $1709. Ro is 300 under that??
I am passing on this one. 3 3rd Rail, 2 MTH, and 1 Lionel already plus I am not much into smoke. More stuff to break.

Running the current numbers, it appears a member would pay an addition 55 dollars to support the club

I have the 6013 pre ordered from MR MUFFINS at a better price then RO. Just hope it's not unlucky number?
I ordered the grey Niagara and the 6-84960 black one with the single headlight. In the past two weeks I have had two CC2 Niagara locomotives on my bench. Both needed the cherry switch. That job is the worst headache to do. The locomotive has to be dismantled big time to get at the $1.50 cherry switch. Although the CC2 is beautiful, it ends there. The new Niagara will be the best locomotive ever built by anyone at any time. I have gone over the locomotive with Ryan and Dave and we are in for a huge treat. I have had a few chances to buy a CC2 Niagara and I feel the bottom on those will go out very soon. A few things that come to my mind that kill it (CC2) are nasty coal load, gearing, CHERRY SWITCH, 2 chuffs, and TMCC. We are in a new world with modern Legacy and we have two great guys involved with the project. Ryan Kunkle and Dave Olsen will make sure this will be the best ever. I have total confidence in both men.
I spent considerable time checking this out at York. Having been in the hobby for a few weeks it takes something special to excite me in the area of new locomotives. The new Lionel Niagara did it big time.

I've been very interested in a Niagara for some time, and have been considering getting one of the CC2 ones and performing some work on it.
That said, can you (or anyone) comment on what specific detail enhancements the new Vision line will offer over the CC2 version?
I need to pull up some pictures of both and compare with a set of prints, but any guidance here in what to look for would be much appreciated.
I like the grey "fantasy" scheme - it is a NICE "might have/should have been" version!
Daniel, with all due respect you can get that information from the Lionel site. It would take a lot of time and posting to list why this new Niagara blows the old one out of the ball park. FYI, I have been seeing several cherry switch failures as these engines are getting old. The switch is $1.50 and you need pockets a bit deeper to pay for labor on that job. At this point the CC2 is still not cheap. You will be happy with the new one. The CC2 is a looker if you can get by the nasty coal load. I am not a fan of the 2 chuffs per rev. Be ready to spend a few bucks when the gear box starts getting nasty. The fix for that is to send the engine to Alex M.
These new versions of the Niagara will be the equivalent of the Vision Line 700E Hudson and then SOME!
Norton :LCCA price is $1709. Ro is 300 under that??

It's $120 less than that but you gotta "add to cart" then "proceed to checkout" (or call) to see it.
After thinking long and hard I decided to pass on it. I'll likely regret it, but my o-60 radius with some close clearances gave me concern.
Besides, I can get 3 H10s for that kinda money.
