Another question. Is it fair to say I won't be able to throw a switch using the "provided remote switch" once I remove the jumper? Once I did that, and plugged in the hot to AUX IN, the track has power, but can't throw the switch in conventional mode. Do I need an ASC or similar? Thanks

The aux input powers the switch and the remote switch as well as the Legacy remote pickup inside the Fastrack switch. So the Legacy remote will also work with the Legacy base on and the track power off.

But if you have the Base on, then you cannot run conventional if the engine is Legacy/Tmcc and conventional both.

If you use the remotes included with the Fastrack Remote/Command switches, you get both conventional and command-control with them. To answer the question regarding fixed voltage connections to the switches: I recommend that you wire the switches to a fixed 12-14V accessory voltage. That way, the train(s) will run well, and the switches will throw without drawing amperage away from the track. Also, if you use a ZW-L, you can run conventional trains with your Legacy remote. I use a Legacy Powermaster on my layout, and it works the same way. It is really fun to watch a conventional loco without being tied down to a fixed control panel.
