I just found out something very interesting. The LHS is shutting down due to health issues with the owner. He had an old Legacy 993 set in the box that had never been opened and gave me a great deal on it. I got it home and when I opened it I found only the 1.0 module and no silver dot.  Oh Crud

I wrote Lionel for a RA to get the 1.0 fix done and I received an email back from Ohio. They told me that if I only had the CAB-2 and no base that needed upgrading it did not have to be returned to Ohio. This seemed counter to everything we had been told about the Legacy 1.0 fix  so I was a bit perplexed.

They recommended going from 1.0 > 1.2> 1.3 then 1.51. Well since I had modified all my 1.0, 1.2 and 1.3 modules and put 1.51 on them I thought I was in trouble. Then I figured what the heck, go for it I installed 1.51 and it seemed to load just fine and appears to have all the 1.51 functions

Two things learned 993 Ver 1.0 Cab 2's do not have to go to Ohio, the fix must have been in the base. And it appears you can go straight from 1.0 to 1.51

Thanks for the info Chris! I've always wondered if their would be a problem with adding an expansion set since it seems the likelyhood of getting an "early one" seems higher than the command set for obvious reasons.

Having said that, I'll probably wait for the cab1l for a second remote. Its good to know if the price difference doesn't justify it, I can safely get the expansion set, and not worry if its one thats been sitting on the shelves awhile.

The Base Micro-Processor Fuse settings (configurable and can only set by a programmer) are wrong for allowing an upgrade on the V1.0 code to a newer version.  This was an oversight on V1.0 and you cannot just pop in a V1.2+ module and expect the upgrade to work on the base.

The reason we pulled in the Cab2 when we did the upgrade on the Legacy bases some time ago was that we did not want to take any chances the Cab2 would not upgrade after recalling the base for correction.  We wanted folks to get the unit back completely upgraded and working.  Therefore there is no need to send in the Cab2 for the upgrade in this case.

Also, there is no reason to hop thru each revision of O/S.  You can jump from 1.2 to 1.51 directly.  Shortly V1.52 will be available.

Thank You  Jon!

I was hoping you would chime in and  let us know what was the difference between the 990 and the 993

Hopefully there are few 1.0 versions of either still laying around anyway. I was very surprised that this one was a 1.0 when I got it home. I knew it had sat at the dealers for a long time, but I didn't think it was that long.
