Intermodal madness! I'd been stuck on a "1970's thing" for most of this year (i.e. lotsa Penn Central) but now I've moved up to the 1980's. The 1980's around here (Mid-Atlantic) meant that we were down to 3 railroads - Amtrak, Chessie System and Conrail. It was also an era of explosive growth in intermodal shipping. Although invented in the late 1970's the Husky Stack, Gundersons and such didn't really take off until the mid 1980's.
Sizing up my collection I decided that my intermodal game needed an equipment upgrade.
I picked up some additional 40' containers, an MTH Conrail 60' flat with 20' containers and this TTX spine car set with SeaLand containers. I also used the additional containers to populate the freight cars I already had with some fresh stock.
Received my K-line PRR 0-4-0 A5 steamer. One cool little switcher. I've been looking for one of these for a while.
I also got a nice New Haven box car from Menards with the free Mustang GT

I finally got a chance to meet up with my friend to pick these 2 Atlas O 33000 gallon tank cars, that I already paid for about a week ago. I saw him operate these before at my local club and I really liked the look of them and he asked me later if I would like to buy them, so I did and I am glad that I did. Since they are really awesome looking cars and they look great behind any modern diesel.
Only problem is that he didn't have the warning placard stickers that get placed on various parts of the car, but I didn't mind that. The cars also had some printed warning labels put on them (where those stickers would have gone), but I was able to easily remove them so no big deal. I might just have to buy more of these in the future, since they are very unique looking. But for now 2 will do for me.

Thanks Larry and Old Lionel. It's a good thing I wasn't modeling O gauge trains when K-line was in business.....I probably would have single handedley kept them in business.

At the Greenberg train show in Edison, NJ today, I bought my first Lionel postwar style Berkshire.
Made in November of 1993 (year AND month I was born, just 3 days early of my actual date of birth), it’s decorated in Pere Marquette markings and has both an electronic E-unit as well as RailSounds.
In spite of the condition of the engine being a bit rough around the edges, it runs super smoothly and quietly, even for an AC motor locomotive, and at $150 that's tough to beat. Now I just need some matching passenger cars...

Have 2 things to share. While poking around Depot Train & Hobby in Cleveland last w/e I found an MTH Reading Crusader boxcar from 1999. They didn't have much MTH there but I was glad to get this to add to my future "Alphabet Route" consist (WM/RDG/CNJ). Also yesterday at auction a bunch of Plasticville kits , apparently new in the box, came up on the block so I had to get those too.
Premier PS2 B&O Mikado from a Forum member. It's a very handsome, well detailed engine at an affordable price.

Trestleking, that is a nice-looking boxcar. But I suspect that you snagged some real treasure if you got those Plasticville kits at a low price.
New old stock Ford ISO by K-Line and a new old stock Southwind Gunderson by K-Line.
Found a beautiful Premier Amtrak Dash-8 in Phase V on eBay from a very good seller (perhaps he's on the forum here?)
I really love the Phase V paint scheme and it matches the Amfleet cars really well! Very happy with the purchase!

Nice scheme indeed, I only wish that MTH put a bit more effort into making this model, since it's not exactly to scale.
50 pesos! ($2.75 US) Saw it at an open-air market this morning. I'm already working on converting it to a crane in my Coca-Cola Bottle Cap Manufacturing and Repair Center.

Inexpensive because it has that zinc disease. Except I just display them, don't run them...
Just got in a Max Gray new in the box Santa Fe side door caboose. Had scale archbars with it, but one truck has broken spring platform on the truck. Sure miss those Weaver 7xx series trucks. Used to raid different and far hobby shops for those. It will get aspen yellow paint, and spruce green trim, with custom decals, and some kind of three rail trucks.
New pair of containers. Just need a 20’ or another ISO tank now.

I finally got one of the Lionel SD60M Legacy models that has been out for a couple years. Due to it being out on the market for a while I got it at a good price from one of the big dealers. It is the Union Pacific #6187. I really like the blinking beacon on top and the horn. I also just received one of the brand new Lionel Union Pacific C44-9W (SP Patch) #9647 Non-Powered. I think it goes well with the SD60M.

Lou, that's one of the sharpest-looking boxcars I have ever seen. According to your video, you have a tendency to collect good-looking railcars.

It's not a boxcar, it's a refrigerator car. But yes I do like the SFRD color scheme. I have 10 other Lionel scale SFRD refrigerator cars similar to this one. With no sounds of course.

Lionel put "freight sounds" in this and a few other refrigerator cars in their 2018 v2 catalog. The cars play random sounds of a train running down the tracks. So thumping on rail joints, flange squeal, and banging when the car starts or stops.

Great looking car Lou. Santa Fe has been a long time favorite. I picked up these cars early on when I started collecting again. I didn't realize that SFRD was a distinct division.

Yup. They will work conveniently no problem. All the sounds are based on the movement of the car. Just put it on a powered track and go.
