In an attempt to "fix" issues related to DCS operation in our modular club's yard, I ended up putting four Susan Deets filters in parallel.  The notion if one is good, more is better doesn't hold up on this application.

Capacitors in parallel, the capacitance is the sum of the components.

Parallel resistors is:

parallel resistance

I inadvertently introduced Conductance into the problem. Big oops on my part.

A coworker (correctly) pointed out that what I ended up with from my ill conceived exercise was 0.4 uf / 55.25 ohms. Is that enough to flash the lights on a Z4000? I dunno, but that's the best explanation I have at this point.

Just for giggles, I am going to go back and try one on the longest siding. Wish me luck.

Gilly,

Prior to the adoption of the new Tracker wiring harness, NCT had a voluntary request that all modules have Deats Filters installed. That was one filter per track, per module.  At one point we had installed in excess of 200 of them. The 2010 WGH layout was done all but 1 module having filters with no ill effects.  The new Tracker harness was originally drawn with filters and twisted pairs but they were removed after engineering analysis showed some degradation.
