Do certain liveries command more respect than others; and, which liveries earn your respect?
also. - would a giraffe car, painted in a HD(Harley) theme, beat a M & M or Princess job?
What is the ultimate "foamer" livery?

Yes the pink Williams GG1 freight set. Why, because it had never been done. Do I run it, well yes for friends but the cars are still in their sealed boxes.

No
Second part should be obvious
I own a pink engine because it's part of my recently purchased tinplate Girls set. A black engine would look ridiculous!
Then again, I have lots of New Haven stuff in McGuinness (sp?) colors that was running before McGuinness changed the colors.
I guess I'm just a colorful guy...

Yes I own three Pink girls sets
the 1991 Lionel issue was bought for my Wife while she was living 1st Pink engine i have ever had
two Williams steam Girls set bought for my 1st niece who as a baby was thrilled every time it ran at the Holidays
Three Williams GG-1 Set bought for second niece when she was born
as well as the It's a Girl Pink Box cars for both girls
... but the cars are still in their sealed boxes.
i'll never understand this, but please don't try to explain why, either.
i bought the first Lionel reissue (1991, thank you for the date on that Bobbie) of the '57(ish... i may not have the year correct) Girl's set because i was running trains for the public quite often then and being a close reproduction, i thought it was interesting enough to invest in. with a bit of serendipity, they actually increased in value a few years after production, but mine was well broken-in at that point.
it was cute to run on Easter and Mother's Day but i certainly never thought of it as an investment, ...just an interesting bit of Lionel history some others had a chance to see and hear about.

Prior to McGinnis, Hunter's Green with dulux striping was the norm, as was Hunter's Green and Orange.
McGinnis changed the colors to the bold red/white/black, commencing with the EP5's.
The Alpert administration elimitated the white and simplified the red/black, the exception being FL9's and EP5's which retained the McGinnis scheme.

for me the liveries do not matter
as far a question 2 it comes down to a matter of taste I for one do not like the Harley theme however I am no Motorcycle Fan. with that said I like the M & M's candies products and as far as the Princesses Jobs. Pink also commerates Breast cancer awareness as RMT has provided a Pink Train with proceedes going to Cancer research for a Cure. as i said in my earlier post I own three all due to ladies in my family that are all train fans and all three are overjoyed at having their own Special Train.
After reading Don's rate your... I felt like having a bit of fun, here. I never actually expected people to take this thread seriously; especially, with the words pink, giraffe and foamer included, in the opening post.
I've only seen one pink O gauge locomotive; it was a Lionel traditional 4-4-2, from a girls set. The guy who owned it had a massive Lionel collection.
If I was buying some trains, for a young girl, I'd probably go with colors that railroads used; unless, she really wanted one in pink. I'd probably tried to persuade her to reconsider, though...
Rick
The cars still in sealed boxes? I just wanted the pink GG1 cause it was different. Actually I have several Lionel sets with the cars still in the box. I wanted the engine and the set was a better buy than the break-up.
Yes
I picked up a pink RMT Beep Cancer Awareness GP along with a hopper car and caboose. Hopefully I'll be able pick up the matching boxcar at some point. My plan is to run it at the modular club public displays this year. It never hurts to help get the message out. Besides, it was a great deal for a nice little train. It is VERY pink.

As for "Why"? If you've never lost someone you love to Cancer, you wouldn't understand.
Probably the only way I could consider a pink engine.
Yep, Lionel girls set
I have a Lionel starter set 4-4-2 loco I have reworked and painted Pink for use by my grand daughter!
I own a pink post war Lionel 2037 Girls locomotive.
disclaimer: it is NOT original. I purchased a post war
lionel 2018 at a train show for $18. It was a basket case.
looked like someone had tryed to paint it using a paint brush.
I striped her and painted it pink, useing a spray can paint
"lady slipper pink", it was real close.
take it to train shows and run it and more than once have been offered
to have someone buy it as an original. Told one guy what it was.
and he said " so what". I think Ill keep it for now.
I do have an original 1957 Girls set. When I was growing up in the 1980's / early 90's the local hobby shop had an original in their display case. As I started to learn about Lionel collecting, I heard the stories about how obscure the Girls set was. Since that time I had wanted one because of the memories associated with the set. Got the chance to buy the set two years ago and jumped on it.
No pink trains for me but if it floats your your boat then go right ahead.
Four sets for us. With a wife who is a TCA member and a collector she has to have it all.
Original 1957 set
Early 90's re-issue
Williams GG1 set/ passenger cars
Williams Freight set
All Lionel add on cars

No. I do not have a pink engine and I hope never to see one on my layout. I think I might have a Pink Pepto-Bismol tank car, but that's it.
No
Ah ultimate foaming?.(<luv that emocon). Unless you're pleasing a princess, or are one, the pink trains qualify you!!
Mine? It would see a lot of shelf time. Most likely run on request only. I would own one for a reasonable price, but not hunt it down. Besides my niece likes purple better. When I need a bit of whimsy, I run my dockside 0-4-0 in harlequin colors.
I bought my daughter the K-Line set shortly after she was born. She is now five and loves her "princess train."
No I don't. BUT....I'd be interested in an original, boxed 2037-500 if someone out there has one for sale. The correct instruction sheet would be nice also!

Just like the above. I bought a K-Line Girls Train set when she was about 9 or 10. She loved it. She's in college now, but when she's home on break, the pink engine and the rest of the set get use. It was fun for her back int he day setting up the entire village that came with the set. The musical diner, the lighted church, etc.. It's a great runner.
I ended up incorporating it into a large layout I had several years ago. I'm trying to find the pictures now.
My wife chewed me out for suggesting pink for my granddaughter. She said that girls aren't pink and boys aren't blue as far as toys go. So, no pink trains unless I bought a freight car or two for breast cancer awareness.
Wouldn't own one if someone else's life depended on it. It's great to tell other people what they should and shouldn't have.
Gerry
No.
I have no desire to own a pink engine.
No, “I” don’t own one but my wife does - the original 1957 Girl’s set I bought her for one of her significant birthdays many years ago.
Bill
I don't think Chuck "the desert dude" could handle the Mo in pink.
This thread kills me... most I've laughed in a long time.
BTW, we had every one of those war toys.
Rick
Probably the only way I could consider a pink engine.
The only good pink engine is a dead pink engine.
Yes, I own the Pink engine from 1957. More interestingly, Hasbro made a very similar mistake and made the G.I.Joe female Nurse in 1965. Like the pink train, very rare. Boys didn't want it, and girls played with Barbie. I have that in a display case as well!!
Ben
Howabout a Pepto unit tank train all in pink!
Mary Kee all pink auto-rack train?
I need the Pepto just thinking about it!
Pepto car? "I'd bite". Pepto's better than having "atomic waste".. umm..its more realistic than most other pink items.
To answer the questions in order:
1. No
2. Gag me with a spoon.
I have purchased a Williams Girls Freight set and the RMT Cancer set both for my wife and because my wife is a breast cancer survivor of over 9 years. She share my enjoyment of this hobby and I am proud to show it.
Only the pink K-Line It's a Girl Boxcar back when my Daughter was born.
