i'll never understand this, but please don't try to explain why, either.

i bought the first Lionel reissue (1991, thank you for the date on that Bobbie) of the '57(ish... i may not have the year correct) Girl's set because i was running trains for the public quite often then and being a close reproduction, i thought it was interesting enough to invest in.  with a bit of serendipity, they actually increased in value a few years after production, but mine was well broken-in at that point.

it was cute to run on Easter and Mother's Day but i certainly never thought of it as an investment, ...just an interesting bit of Lionel history some others had a chance to see and hear about.

Prior to McGinnis, Hunter's Green with dulux striping was the norm, as was Hunter's Green and Orange.

McGinnis changed the colors to the bold red/white/black, commencing with the EP5's.

The Alpert administration elimitated the white and simplified the red/black, the exception being FL9's and EP5's which retained the McGinnis scheme.

for me the liveries do not matter

as far a question 2 it comes down to a matter of taste I for one do not like the Harley theme however I am no Motorcycle Fan. with that said I like the M & M's candies products and as far as the Princesses Jobs.  Pink also commerates Breast cancer awareness as RMT has provided a Pink Train with proceedes going to Cancer research for a Cure.   as i said in my earlier post I own three all due to ladies in my family that are all train fans and all three are overjoyed at having their own Special Train.

After reading Don's rate your... I felt like having a bit of fun, here. I never actually expected people to take this thread seriously; especially, with the words pink, giraffe and foamer included, in the opening post.

I've only seen one pink O gauge locomotive; it was a Lionel traditional 4-4-2, from a girls set. The guy who owned it had a massive Lionel collection.

If I was buying some trains, for a young girl, I'd probably go with colors that railroads used; unless, she really wanted one in pink. I'd probably tried to persuade her to reconsider, though...

Yes

I picked up a pink RMT Beep Cancer Awareness GP along with a hopper car and caboose. Hopefully I'll be able pick up the matching boxcar at some point. My plan is to run it at the modular club public displays this year. It never hurts to help get the message out. Besides, it was a great deal for a nice little train. It is VERY pink.

As for "Why"? If you've never lost someone you love to Cancer, you wouldn't understand.

I own a pink post war Lionel 2037 Girls locomotive.

disclaimer: it is NOT original. I purchased a post war

lionel 2018 at a train show for $18. It was a basket case.

looked like someone had tryed to paint it using a paint brush.

I striped her and painted it pink, useing a spray can paint

"lady slipper pink", it was real close.

take it to train shows and run it and more than once have been offered

to have someone buy it as an original. Told one guy what it was.

and he said " so what". I think Ill keep it for now.

I do have an original 1957 Girls set. When I was growing up in the 1980's / early 90's the local hobby shop had an original in their display case. As I started to learn about Lionel collecting, I heard the stories about how obscure the Girls set was. Since that time I had wanted one because of the memories associated with the set. Got the chance to buy the set two years ago and jumped on it.

Ah ultimate foaming?.(<luv that emocon). Unless you're pleasing a princess, or are one, the pink trains qualify you!!

Mine? It would see a lot of shelf time. Most likely run on request only. I would own one for a reasonable price, but not hunt it down. Besides my niece likes purple better. When I need a bit of whimsy, I run my dockside 0-4-0 in harlequin colors.

Just like the above.  I bought a K-Line Girls Train set when she was about 9 or 10.  She loved it.   She's in college now, but when she's home on break, the pink engine and the rest of the set get use.    It was fun for her back int he day setting up the entire village that came with the set.  The musical diner, the lighted church, etc..  It's a great runner.

I ended up incorporating it into a large layout I had several years ago.  I'm trying to find the pictures now.
