K-Line made the biggest commitment to scale couplers when they started including the necessary hardware and couplers to convert their reefers from traditional couplers. I wish other manufacturers would finally follow their lead.

My question is, how is the quality of the coupler itself? are they as good as Kadees?

1) MTH does this also. They include the the necessary shim to body mount the Kadee coupler assembly, and the ir under frame is already drilled for the necessary screws to mount the coupler & shim.

2) Atlas O also tried the "scale coupler" inclusion in there 3-Rail freight cars, except the "Adjust-A-Coupler" product was a disaster. Most of the coupler knuckles broke in service, and they dropped the concept.

3) The few K-line scale size couplers I got, are still in service with no problems.

The bottom line is, why use anything else BUT Kadee couplers?

They are identical in quality and design to Kadee.  The patent ran out a while ago, and K- Line was going to directly compete.  They were not scale couplers - if you want scale couplers, I believe Protocraft is your only source.  Bring money.

Early Lionel couplers for the 700 cars were scale, and worked great.  Scale Craft operating couplers were prototypically correct and operate well.  Haven't been available for well over a half century.
