Hi Everyone....

Well, after a few years of looking at an area on my layout that has bothered me for some time....and also from getting encouraging comments and emails from folks on the forum, I changed the bridge supports under the approach to the lift bridge in the harbor area of the layout.  The new supports are seen in the pictures as the concrete/stone colored block piers holding up the approach span.  Previously, you can see in the pictures that I had a combination of the Lionel bridge supports with two of the graduated trestles supporting the structure.  As "Alanrail" here on the forum nicely suggested a few weeks ago....that combo did not come off very well and I agreed with him.  So....while at York I was visiting with Jim at Bridgeboss and saw that he had just what I was looking for...the replacements that would hopefully make a big improvement in the entire scene.  I think the new supports did just that!!  The first 3 pictures are the before, and then the pictures following those are the after.  If you right click on a picture and then click "open link in new window", you will get a full scene shot that will give a lot of detail...  Hope you enjoy and I appreciate you taking the time to look.

Thanks,

Alan

Hi Alan.

Thanks for showing these new type supports, as they certainly enhance your layout.

A little history to these supports- I had a gentleman recently ask me if I could make a particular support that had the same basic pattern that I use on some of my Modular arch viaduct bridges. After about a week or so we came up with a look that we both liked and we proceeded with an order. See attached a couple additional photos which represent a graduated version of this same support. You can see in the background the Modular arch bridges with the same basic block type feature.

tks .

Thanks so much guys!!  I do think they made a big difference.

Rod:  The lift bridge did not come with any kind of supports or abutments.  So...I made the supports from 1/8th inch Masonite and then covered it in a stone block photo I found online.  I just printed and stitched it together and you see the results.

Jim:  I like the new supports...they look great and add a lot to your growing line of products.

Alan:  OK...OK...I promise...I won't use them unless absolutely necessary!!

Thanks,

Alan
