As those of us on the East Coast are facing the great snow storm, it appears to be a great weekend to run trains and work on the layout. It will also be a great time to look at Weekend Photo Fun if you are stuck at home.

This past Wednesday I took out all the Polar Express/Christmas stuff at the VMT and started to work on the "Frozen" layout. I still have a lot of work to do on this;

Here are a few Central Railroad of New Jersey diesel switchers at work around my layout. VO1000 1062, a Weaver model, is assigned to work train duty. The car behind the unit is painted for the CNJ Jersey City Service Train. Later that same day in fading light, SW9 1093, an Atlas locomotive,  has paused so the crew can get coffee to fend off the effects of working in the frigid conditions. Located immediately adjacent to the engine terminal, the diner is a family owned affair which has served generations of railroaders. Even the Maintenance of Way boys have retreated to its cozy confines as evidenced by their truck parked outside. This all seems very appropriate for the weather we'll be experiencing on the Eastern Seaboard over the next few days. I hope all the professional railroaders manage to stay safe and as warm as possible during the storm.

A 2015 Christmas Layout memory

For the last 10 years or so I've featured a "candy train" on the layout for the enjoyment of visiting kids.  It's always a big hit.  This year I created THREE separate candy trains.  For the kids' enjoyment this year we had 2 types of candy canes, lollipops, pretzels, red licorice 'sticks', red licorice 'niblets', assorted bulk candy, and a cookie car.

A bit of musing and still fussing at one neighborhood spot around the corner and down the street , which is very close to the tracks so it's not the toniest (if any are) section of Moon Township ...

A key player in the neighborhood, just down the street from the parochial school, is the "Blue Angel Club," which helps set the tone.

I like the last version Frank, it looks more realistic plus it's a hoppin' place and that scene fits!

I'm still working on a bunch of different projects all at the same time and finished with none, thanks ADHD but here is a couple of shots of the ol' 681 my grandson chose to run this week.

Still smokes like crazy with some old smoke pellets I found at a local show!

Frank as usual great photos. Also Its good to know that the local law enforcement provided you with surveillance photos of the clubs activities.  I suppose the guy ducking out the back door in the alley knows something and decided not to stick around.

A fun interpretation, and Thank you for the approval, Suzukovich. Though not easily discernible from my initial photos, he has a hand-truck in his hands and is making a delivery to the dumpster located in the shadow in the right rear corner. However, lordknowz, he could still be up to some sort of nefarious shenanigans, given the neighborhood which, apparently, I have managed to convey a possible sense of since you suspected something worthy of "surveillance" and"ducking out" was IMG_1643btranspiring. That in itself is a compliment, too, so Thanks, again!

Nice work, like either of these two. When we lived in OKC, down the block was a state controlled liquor store with no sales on Sunday IIRC, a church, and a strip club.  All in a residential neighborhood of single family homes.

Peter,

I will say a prayer for you.  We were Northerners transplanted in Virginia for a number of years, so we understand.  I worked for Virginia Power in Fredericksburg, and my wife was a dialysis nurse in Warrenton and Culpeper.  We know about getting called out no matter the weather in an area that isn't used to as much snow as we are back in Pennsylvania.

Now on to the photos!  Thanks for posting so many!  As always, it looks like a big event that excited a lot of folks young and old!  Your photos are always good.

I didn't see anything on the hand truck and it looks like he is wearing a suite. That in its self is an indicator. Maybe he is the target of the surveillance? Of course two guys working an Ice Cream truck is not normal either.( one in the back and one looks to be sitting in the passenger seat.) And the suite who appears to be talking into his hand under the awning( hope I spelled it right). Local Police raid layout of well respected O Gauge modeler!!!  come up empty handed.  News at nine, pics at 10.

Frank - All of these photos are great!  The two that call out to me the most are the last one and the next to last one.   Your wonderful creative work continues to inspire me!
