Lionel Union Pacific Excursion 21” Passenger Set + Stationsounds Diner. WOW

Went to pick up some Ross switches I had ordered at my LHS (Legacy Station) along with some grass cover and ended up coming home with this:

Credit to the wife, I was on the fence about it but she said she could see the joy in my face and encouraged me to get it. I LOVE it! Probably one of my favorite locomotives in the roster!!!

I picked up the following: Athearn Genesis SD70ah UP 1943, Walthers mainline NS ES44ac, and a Walthers Mainline SD60m. The ES44 is arrive tomorrow so no pics yet.

Make sure there are no filters on the search. One of my usual searches is "Lionel Legacy" and it has some weird filter that currently shows no results. When you reset the filters it shows 400+ results.

Two years ago, I bought a string of Atlas Trainman 60' NYC passenger cars for my smallish layout.  They look and run great, and I was eagerly awaiting the release of a NYC observation car to complete the consist.

Finally, in summer of last year, Atlas actually announced that the NYC observation car was being produced,  And in July of 2017, I pre-ordered one.

Last night, much to my surprise, I received an email that they were shipping!  I made my payment at once.  So although I've bought something cool, as the thread title specifies, I haven't actually received it yet.

Apparently there aren't any photos of the  NYC observation yet, so here's the online illustration of it:

I was hoping to show you video of the Joustra Silver Arrow streamliner that I 

bought several days ago. Unfortunately not as it is laying on my table in pieces. 

It would light and the motor would turn, but it would not move. Finally after

it was apart I found that the pinion was loose on the shaft. I took it off to knurl

the shaft a bit. While it was off  I tried the motor by itself, lots of noise and 

really hot and smoking. I took the motor apart, a can motor, lots of fun. 

Found a small nut inside, maybe 2-56 that was jamming the armature. I put

the motor back together and tried running it again. Still very hot and lots of

smoke so I think it is toast. No markings on the motor anywhere and as the

train came from france it could be anything.

Oh oh, John!!  My high school French circa 1970-72 probably wouldn't be of any assistance.  

well, my circa 63-63 Latin certainly does not help, but google has

Weathered 4-12-2 UP from Lionel. Got it from the bay with some siderod linkage bent and a little scrape of paint missing. The steam whistle smoke fan seems like its marginal but I have come to expect that on those tiny smoke fan motors.

I made a deal this past weekend with @leapinlarry to buy his Lionel 6-11334 Southern Crescent!  Can't wait to add it next to my USRA Legacy Southern engine I bought a month ago!

 I almost forgot my birthday was Sunday...YAY!  Anyway, my wife bought me a few items.  Some coca-cola crates w/bottles for a coke plant I plan on building, a new Central of GA smoking caboose, a nice scrap load for my PW gondola, and a TWTrainworx Truss bridge kit (hasn't arrived yet).

You did the right thing.  I bought a NYC S1 electric from Leapin' Larry last year, and I can't speak highly enough of the experience.  He is an outstanding seller.

I agree....Larry is outstanding and is willing to work with you also.  I have had 5 or 6 purchases with people on the board and all have been good!  There are some good people on this board for sure...that is why this is the greatest hobby ever!

Okay, I didn't buy stuff as such but all the following showed up yesterday in the mailbox at the same time:

• NMRA magazine (oddly late)
• Micro Mark catalog
• Model Railroader
• Trains magazine
• The ET&WNC historical society newsletter
• My check for the article in the current Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette (perfect timing, as there's a model train show nearby this comin weekend)
• Some paperwork from a gent who wants my help and contributions to a book project (can't more than that at this point but it is model train related)

All in one day!

I received a AF tinplate Zephyr that I ordered a few days ago. Large box by FEDEX.  Inside was a much smaller

tattered old box, not OB, old box. There was about 4-6 inches of empty space around this box so it could

just rattle around  in the big box. Jammed inside the smaller box were the zephyr set, track, trans, a small

station, an extra motor, and a couple of signals. All packed together metal to metal with a scrap of bubble

wrap to kinda keep it from moving around. Some people are just  stupid. 

Most folks package trains for shipment quite well.  Then there are a few who you really have to wonder about!  That is a shame!

Strangely enough, I chose not to keep the...............suitcase! This guy even charged me $50 to ship this stuff this way

I think the guy who sold mine thought he was going to get a lot more,

when he did not he just said eff it and dumped it into a box and 

shipped it. Everything on the table was jammed into  the small box. Pictured also is

the god dog expressing his displeasure with the packing. 

I have had this happen before, the seller does not get the amount they want

so they do this to save money

the god dog did enjoy the bubble wrap tho, Guessing there will

be some dog beating when his mom picks him up and has

to clean it up.

I had one, not from a Forum member either, where two MTH engine boxes were in a much bigger box; it was huge.  There was nothing to fill the empty space.  They slid around so much there was a hole knocked out of the side of the box that was just a smidgen too small for the contents to slip right out.  One more handling, and I would have received an empty box!!

Arrived today.  Very smooth runner.  Planning on having Carpnarelli repaint it.  Sorry for the poor lighting.  

We’re taking our moldmaking and casting equipment out of mothballs. The vacuum degassing  cart has been cleaned, drained and refilled with a fresh pint of pump oil. We’ll be setting up the pressure tanks in the coming weeks. 

This week added the MTH 20-40033 five car set to the two car set and RPO car.  This will replicate the B&O consist of the "Shenandoah" rode round trip to D.C. in 1958.

Ron, I just picked up a cheaper set of the same cars that are scaled down to fit better on my layout. What color is the interior/seats on your models? Mine are white and I want to spray bomb them the "correct" color and add passengers. Thanks, Doug

  Restoring one of the old Lionel 817's I picked up from Jim Lawson this past week, things are coming a long just fine.

The 817 shell is almost ready for the Under Coating.  I keep looking at this 817 Caboose and although I want it Black and Gold, the Silver and Gold with Black chassie might just be something to consider also.

Not lately but rather lately re-found.  John's post reminded me of these.

Several years ago walked into local toy train shop to find these running on the layout.  They belonged to the Judge local retired Magistrate O-Gauge guy  that worked at store part-time.

They were pulled by a Genesis all like new.

Now what I was really interested in was the Amfleet cars.

My interest in these was because after FOGG (Friends of the GG1) got to repaint GG1 motor 4935 back into it's original Green with five stripe livery it pulled Amfeet cars in revenue for about three/four years.

These are viable power for these.

All these as I recall for $400.00.  The two SupperLiners at top are set 20-6541 (Sleeper & Diner).  The single car at bottom (Sleeper) is a transition car. Connecting diaphragms at two levels.  One upper the other lower level.

Just picked up a set of three MTH High Tension Towers that I had ordered from my LHS, and received (e-Bay purchase) a set of 4  MTH RailKing 16" NYC streamlined passenger cars (Baggage, Coach, Vista, Observation) .

Picked up today a postwar 1956 44 tonner set in good shape at estate sale. Plus three metal figures. Have to clean up and see how well it’s runs. Original cars.

From an Ebay seller, my Lionel #8850 Penn Central GG1 arrived.  Way back in 1978 I opted for the 8753 Pennsylvania Tuscan Red version.  The black PC just did not appeal to me then.  It only took forty years for me to come around.....LOL

It is missing the pantograph insulators.  While I was cleaning all of that excess grease from the gears, I had the shell off and gave it a bath.  

And now the price of an Lionel 8850 PC GG1 is better too! Can you ever have too many GG1's?

When I posted a week or so ago about my Atlas Trainman 60' NYC Observation car, I promised photos as soon as it arrived at my door.  Well, here they are:

As you can see, the paint is nicely done.  And although I don't have a scale to weigh it, it's a reasonably heavy car, and has no trouble staying on the track or running through switches.  It's LED-illuminated, like the rest of the 60' series that I already own.

Somewhat to my surprise, it also has an illuminated NYC drumhead on the rear railing:

Although it's a nice touch, I find it rather too bright to be realistic, and I'll probably have to add a resistor to dim it down a bit. 

Unfortunately, the car does not also come with marker lights, so it looks like that'll be a summer project for me.  I know about the Tomar LED marker lights, but can anyone recommend others, just for comparison?

The observation car really looks great!!  Thank you for posting!

Got an e-mail from Joe Grzyboski the other day that he got in the 21" Pennsy Broadway Limited cars I was interested in, so I drove over yesterday and picked these up: the 4-car set and the 2-car Stationsounds Car set. I am very impressed with the finish on all the cars - they really look beautiful. There are some wires visible in the Stationsounds Car, but not as noticeable as some that have been posted here. Due to their size, I really can only run four of the cars at a time, but since I wanted the Stationsounds Car, I ended up with six (which are almost 11' long without the engine!!!). Tomorrow I'll give them a test run.
