Legacy engine modules

The answer is no, in the manual go to page 46 to follow steps to manually load info versus module usage and if done correctly you should have icons for functions etc and unless the module is mislabeled for some other product its a dud. Your base and remote data can be saved using the Lionel Utility Program and two black modules ( One for cab and one for base) .Merry Christmas!!!

There were some blank modules sent out with locomotives, apparently you got one of them.

the modules do not do anything other then put in the info. if you put the info in manually then you did what the module would have done. 

 

the modules do not do anything to run the engine.

 

lets say you were at a club and someone was already using the number you gave your loco.  no problem start up your engine at run your train.  the info would just be different.  the other thing that might be different is some icons..

 

Lionel has said they may stop providing modules.

Thanks, guys. Looks like I entered everything correctly - engine runs great - all options and displays are identical to the ones provided to my other steam engines via their modules.

 

I can't believe the control you have with Legacy to vary both steam sounds and loco control with various degrees of labor, braking, momentum, etc.

Jim, my missouri pacific legacy mikado came with a blank module also. The only icons on the remote that I were not able to load manually with just the remote were the marker and rule 17 lighting. This can now be added with the lsu software. I just asked lionel to send me a new orange module so in the event of having to reload the info it would be easy.I purchased a cigar box from a cigar shop to keep my modules in. I painted it up black to match my power supplies and put a lionel logo on it. Have it setting on my control panel so that they are easily accesable.

Actually with 1.5 you can get all the lighting features by holding the AUX2 button for 3 seconds. Don't have to use LSU

Jim I had the same issue with my C&O Mikado.  I just called Lionel and they sent me one, no charge.  Enjoy your Legacy.

I had the same issue with one of my legacy engines and I emailed Mike Reagon and he replied immedaitely and told me to wiggle it,

I sprayed some deoxit in the module and in the cab 2, put in the module and pulled it back and forth afew times and bingo it worked just fine,

I love the "Search" feature!!  I just opened my new PRR Mikado 11257 and I am experiencing the same thing. Tried the wiggle, a little compressed air and still nothing.

 

Just sent Lionel an email.  Looks like a new module must be the answer.

A friend of mine just received a NEW Legacy American Flyer Mallet Engine. He said there was no "MODULE" in the box. Is it an oversite or has Lionel stopped sending MODULES??

They said at York the day of the modules was drawing to a close. Make sure your friend has 1.51 and he will get all the features

Why does lionel keep making all these changes?,it seems that i just start to learn one way,they come along and change things, for me this is very frustrating,i have enough problems trying to learn the computer, without having to struggle learning how to run trains to, i like things plain & simple,the easyier the better i want to have fun ruinning trains not to struggle everytime somebody desides to make a change,so LIONEL LETS KEEP THINGS SIMPLE, keep the modules!!!!!!

Gerald I know where you're coming from but in Lionel's defense in order to advance the technology changes must be made. With those changes come new and possibly exciting things. Hang in there it WILL get easier I promise.

Gerald by the time you set your second engine up without the module you will not miss them. The most tedious part is the naming of the engine. But even with the Modules I had to do that because I always renamed my engines, usually to something shorter, than what the modules did.

 

I think I did hear someone say the AF engines would be the first to be shipped minus the module

I guess i will get the hang of it ,my small brain is really going to get more of a workout now than it ever got in all the years i went to school,maybe it will help keep me young,it really is interesting the train hobby,it's learning new things that slows me down,but as long as there are people such as Ron,Chris & all the other forum members willing to help out i will surive!!!!!

I found it was easier to load another module and then change some things.

If you load manually, does the cab read "cab 2, or still cab 1"?

I know the fellow I spoke of has V1.51, because I updated him myself with my V1.51 Modules. Thanks for the "HEADS UP" though!!!

it will read how you program it.

 

the cab2 has the ability to be, cab1, tmcc, or legacy.

It will never read "CAB 2" the options are CAB 1, TMCC or Legacy

But does loading the information manually enable the engine specific Railsounds CrewTalk/TowerCom ..... "ATSF 2791, the lead is clear"

Sure, those sounds are in the locomotive, they're canned in the RailSounds firmware.

 

There is nothing in the module you can't manually enter.

John - I guess that's why Lionel is doing away with the modules...

Well, the orange modules still come with Legacy locomotives, so they're not doing away with those.  They're just trying to handle updates without sending out blue modules for every version.  I've heard nothing about not getting a module with each Legacy engine. 

 

as an FYI for the new people here, the orange module days are numbered.

It appears the AF engines are being sent out without the orange modes based on a post last week

BUMMER!  I didn't realize they were doing that.  My latest Legacy locomotive is a 2011, they still had them.

 

I wonder if they'll have downloadable parameter files to save having to sit with the remote and program all the stuff that was in the orange modules?

 

It's a good thing I made myself a handful of black modules, I'll have some to load my engines into.

 

 

They're not selling many RS5 boards yet, just the older RS4 boards.

Where can you get the "black" modules??
