Everything I tell MTH to make always sells well. They should give me a discount, LOL!

I will be expanding the LIRR fleet when the 6 cars arrive.

Now for the Ping Pongs, Path, R-15's and old SIRT cars, everyone will be happy including MTH.

LI Cabooses needed too.

Hope I'm still around to enjoy them.

Sunrise

The sunrise Special was operated for the LIRR by the Pullman company. It originated in the late 1920s and was equipped with Parlor cars from the Pullman company. The mp 54's would not have been  in this train. I believe the train was long gone by the time the orange and grays were the colors used on LIRR cars.

A railking G5 with the tender logo in your photo with a set of Madisons lettered for Pullman would be a nice looking set.

I would love to see a Rail King G-5 as well but, #35,39 or 50 and a Rail King RS-3 1555 & 1556 in as delivered paint scheme they can call it the end of steam series lol. Yea to dream. Couldn't they re tool the old 2-8-0 rail king starter set engine to fit on the new 4-6-0? Just give it the Rail King K-4  head light.

Mth changed their cataloged rs3 from 1557 to 1556 to match the one at the Museum Of the Long Island Railroad in Riverhead.

1556 due out between Aug - Oct 2014

One issue I have with all my MTH LIRR RS-3's is the incorrect single headlights.

Should be dual beams.

The other is the CSX cab chatter and telephone sounds which didn't exist in 1964.

I have a request in to Bill S. to change the orange top B/W caboose to grey lettering.

All RK & Premier RS units appear to be the same size.

Some older RK cabooses are smaller, later models are the same size as Premier.

This one is the smaller one and also an inch is chopped out of the middle to obtain the look. It has printed paper sides since there are no proper decal letters available.

Majority of the LIRR fleet didn't have a bay window sticking out the sides in order to clear platforms. The normal size RK b/w first made by MTH tends to scrape the platform edges due to play in the wheel sets.

The MTH Railking rs3 is the same size as the lionel rs3 i converted my lionel rs3 to 1555 and gave it a more realistic paint job. Now i need an engine 39 and 35

Well if Lirr 1555 can have an RS-3 #1555, then I certainly want a DD-1 #351.  Actually I have an Atlas-O RS-3 converted to PS2 which is waiting for Long Island paint.  Lirr 1555, what scheme is your RS-3?  You said you gave it a more realistic paint.  I'm thinking of going with the blue and yellow since that's what I remember best (and it looks a lot easier to mask).

I gave it a gray and orange paint scheme to better match Operation Changeover in 1955 my layout is based on long island in the 30-50s era of trains and i run some modern

Nice job on the repaint on the LIONEL MP-54's to LIRR:  Two problems make your cars somewhat innacurate:
(1) - You did NOT paint the window frames in the prototype required aluminum color that the TICHY scheme rebuilt cars had - these were new aluminum window frames these cars received.

(2) Your LIRR MP-54 Cars have NO 3rd Rail Shoes on their trucks

(3) Your Bodies have (as being originally Lionel PRR MP-54's) still have the air-cooling ventilator box and large grid-screen on the center of one side of the PRR body car - the LIRR Version car bodies never had that large side vent as they ran on straight 700VDC and not on much higher voltage (and blower cooled resisters) PRR catenary rectified AC juice supply !

MTH also have 3 glaring mistakes in their TICHY version LIRR MP-54 Cars as delivered;

(1) These cars (and I have a 2 car set now) ALSO lack the lighter aluminum-colored window frames on the bodies (The MTH 2013 CATALOG LIRR MP-54 images depicted do correctly SHOW the lighter window frames on the pilot models)

(2)  These cars ALSO lack the very important "offset" 3rd rail shoe and its beam for (as like all NY Subway cars) solely operation on LIRR (subway style) 3rd rail only trackages !

(3)  The "Grey"  body color of the MTH LIRR MP-54  bodies is a much darker (bordering towards dark grey with dark olive green hues) color rather than the obviously somewhat lighter pure grey seen on the LIRR Cars in the Tichy Paint scheme.

The CON COR HO SCALE Models of MP-54's not only got the TICHY scheme and window treatment correct, with the orange ends, but ALSO have the proper offset 3rd rail shoe on wood beam molded into their MP-54 truck sideframes.

I wonder who the Tech person was helping MTH on these MP-54 cars per the TICHY color scheme....and per the missing truck mounted 3rd rail shoe/beams very important details.

I believe the original topic was about the new MTH cars?

The window frames on my Lionel set do have silver paint on them.

As for the rest of the details, 99% of the people here would never notice or really care about your other points mentioned especially since they don’t model a 3rd rail.

After all, it’s 3 rail, which anything goes.

If I was seeking complete accuracy, I would join the rivet counters and model in 2 rail.

I think you’re in the wrong ballpark Joe.

Steve

New MTH 6 car set photos arriving in the week ahead!

The colors and lettering scheme on these colors is post Tichy from the photos shown. Dashing Dan did not arrive on the LIRR until the steam engines left post Tichy. The darker grays were more representative of the cars as they existed from the late 50s to the end of LIRR service into 1970 or so.

The detail which was shown in the catalog bur seems to be left out on the finished MTH product based photo of the cars as delivered from MTH is the aluminum coloring on the window frames. There are many prototype photos that show the cars this way and to the best of my knowledge, I do not believe MP 54 window frames in the prototype were ever painted gray on these LIRR cars .

MTH had it right in the catalog but it was left out on the finished product. The aluminum colored window sash makes a substantial difference in the models appearance and those who are purchasing these cars will want to add the aluminum trim to their cars.

Its unfortunate if MTH shipped these cars without the aluminum window sash coloring as it seems to be a quality issue that should have been corrected before shipping the product. I would hope that they consider recalling the product and correcting the sash issue as it would make these cars a great product more like the prototype model.
