From the 2012 LCT catalog. Commodore Vandy loco and tender (PS3) plus three 600 series passenger cars. Here are some quick pics. Just a great look with the bright red finish. This will be a natural for the Christmas layout. More later from the layout.

The Comet's been through its initial paces, and all is well. PS3 sounds are great and it smokes like a champ (JT Mega Steam as usual). I'm also much more comfortable with the wireless draw bar (this is my second PS3 loco) and making the connection is a snap.

Two early observations: 1) the station sounds announce the "Red Comet" which is a nice touch as opposed to the generic or random train names used for other locos. And 2) this tender came with an automatic release couple that fires. I just assumed the Comet would come with the classic latch couplers. I have a 262e with the same tender and that one was produced with latch coupers.

Overall, a winner.

Good tip, Allan.  The other thing is I do my best to avoid disconnecting and re-connecting the draw bar as much as possible,  Carefully picking up loco and tender together when moving them usually does the trick.

Another tip I have long used when unpacking locomotives, particularly for the first time, is to use my bed as a soft "landing spot" for the locomotive.  Rather than use those ribbons to remove the engine (and tender, if applicable) from the foam box liner, I simply turn the foam container upside down and let the locomotive gently slide onto the bedspread.  A gentle and easy way to avoid damaging any delicate details.
