Southern RR Fans- PHOTOS

I got these MTH Premier Southern Streamlined passenger car set before Christmas.  I was surprised and glad to see that MTH add the Southern Logo onto these cars.

Very nice photos.  Which set was it and what are the car names?  Thanks for sharing!

Here is another photo of them in the box.  MTH Item number is 20-65282.  These are from 2017 Vol 1 Catalog.  I debated several months about purchasing the Lionel 21 inch  Southern Streamlined passenger car set.  They have the black roofs and Southern Logo on each car which I like, but I decided that the length is too big for me to run so I decided to get this MTH set instead.

The car names are: Bristol, Pulaski, Birmingham, the baggage & observation cars only have numbers on them.

Now if Lionel would only make a set of Legacy Southern F3's!

Southern apparently added the emblems in the late 60s, and painted the roofs black by the early 70s, based on photo evidence. The Lionel cars are only appropriate for the 1970s Southern Crescent. Your MTH cars represent the transition from original appearance to final version.

Should be pulled by black E7 or E8 or black FP-7s. Original green units lasted until 1958 before the E8s were repainted in 1972.

Of course, they are your trains and can run any way you want. Just giving some technical data for knowledge.

I have been wanting MTH or Lionel to make correct green F3s or F7s for some time now. If MTH made them, they could be paired with the F7 set them made a few years ago, since both colors ran together in late 50s.
