On my wish list & hope to order:
Niagra #6023
Vision Baggage Car
NYC RPO
The two 2-Car Baggage sets w/the stripe, & hopefully the grey w/out stripe as well. The older looking green ones, probably not so much.
NYC SW7 - Really need a small, late transition-era diesel switcher for the (future) layout.
W&LE 2-6-6-2 Mallet #2007 - Would love to add this one, but may not be room in the budget to pre-order.
Nothing in the catalog really grabbed my attention except for the LionScale Western Maryland hoppers. Really like the patchwork details.
I liked the SP 2 6 6 2 Steamer until I did some research and lo and behold SP never had any of those on their rails and I dont buy fantasy engines. Why not make real prototypical engines.
Mikey
Mikey,
But I think there were only 2 engines (not 3932) and the Vanderbilt tender was a 6 wheel truck tender. The tender just looks too small on Lionel's version. I am sure there are other things but I am still researching and thinking about it. I think they were bought second hand during WW2 and lasted into the early 50's.

A few things caught my eye but not going to order anything.
The pricing on some freight cars are really high. Any car with a msrp of a $100 or more gets scratched off my list immediately. Yea I know street price will be lower but for me not low enough.
Dave
I wish they made their diesels in dummy still... would be a could I would order in that case...

I always vacillate on this. But, then, I'm comfortable with the product 'cause they run on THREE rails.

Marty, I’ll take your word on that. Past York I was going to buy one but Ryan from Lionel said it only worked with cab1 base and I needed the expansion set for the extra cab.

Maybe he misunderstood what you were asking. Below is the outline.
Cab1L works with a Base 1L and Legacy Base.
Cab2 works only with a Legacy Base. (No database to connect to in a Base1L)
But no worries the Cab1L will work with a Legacy Base just fine. You're safe to purchase one.
Here is the manual for your reading enjoyment...Just need to make sure the Cab1L is on the same channel as your Legacy Base.
nothing!!

The first thing I saw was Muffins email and H10 hit me right between the eyes. OMG!! Finally an NYC H10 Mikado! Any NYC fan knows that H10 and NYC Mikado are mutually inclusive terms.
I started scroll down Muffins site and pre order one right then and there. But wait, lets look at the catalog, since I am in a buying mood maybe I will see something else to order.
The Lionel page could not load fast enough. Finally the catalog opens up. There is the Niagara, - I'm happy with the CCII version, I keep clicking, got to see that NYC H10 Mikado!!!
I clicked the mouse a couple more times and OH NO, IT'S A PENNSY H10 CONSILIDATION BUMMMMMMER!!
Oh well, I will have to wait until I get a hard copy of the new Lionel Catalog. Maybe a freight car or two.
The price of the 2 6 6 2 caught my eye. Do you remember when they had a hard time dumping the TMCC version years ago or $700?
I made a pledge that the Pennsy VL GG1 would be my last big engine purchase. Well I can keep my promise until the next catalog comes out.
Thanks,
Richard
Lionel released the 2-6-6-2 with Legacy a few years back I think it was 2012. They ended up blowing them out. I bought 2 or 3 right around $700. I do not see paying $900 more for a different road number.
After quickly looking through the new catalog I think it is one of the best so far with so many offerings. And so far I ordered the TH&B GP7's..... both numbers and the scale auto racks. Now I will take my time to look at everything to see what else..............Paul
I like this catalog. They did not go overboard with tons of stuff that will take forever to make. They have a nice selection of a vision line item, steam and diesel and pop in a few new items like the cabooses with cameras.
I don't have a Niagara and this one looks really nice with the steam features so I'm going to go for this one and the cam cabooses.
Very disappointed in the comical artwork on the Christmas 2018 boxcar. As unsightly as the 2015 artwork. Amazing how it's either "home run" or "strikeout", never in between. The artwork on the Lionscale 3-bay hopper should have been the boxcar artwork.
Also, I wish they would have made the Santa Fe Super Chief as Lion Chief+ rather than plain Lion Chief.
Likewise they need to make a Lion Chief+ Polar Express. Fixed voltage track isn't going to cut it for me.
Great catalog. Tons of interesting stuff. Price increases much smaller than I was expecting.
Love those 6-packs of Ore Cars. What a FANTASTIC price. They'll be coming to live with me.
Stu
And for my final gripe, no Alaska or Long Island freight, unless I somehow missed something.
So in summary, a beautifully presented catalogue with lots for most, nothing for me. There's always 2019.

I agree with the Super Chief being LC+. They have this set listed less than they want for the LC+ engine. My layout is small enough that a B unit isn't needed. I'm interested in just the engine...but not at $500+

I asked Lionel that right after they announced the 2-6-0, and they don't have the tooling for their cabooses...and they told me to ask MTH. When I reminded him that they made it in the late 80's or so, he said he wouldn't know where the tooling is...
I really like that boxcar in the H-10 set (and the H-10 itself), but I can't afford the set right now.
I also like the camera cabooses. I really wish it was in a Northeastern caboose.
I liked the little single-truck work trains and the hospital!

Weaver also made a Rutland caboose in the “Northeastern” style. It’s a pretty nice one, but the roller pick ups are small and are bad about falling between the rails of Ross switches, causing a short.
Thanks
Richard
I am still looking but the for sure's are the VL Niagara, all the NYC cars, the Coal Hauler H10 set, and maybe a few things more. I have to get a little more time to read, always get star struck one what stuff looks like and read just a bit. I do love the extensive passenger car selection and I do feel the next catalog will expand more on them. Now just the waiting. I think we have the cutoff somewhere in March to put our orders in.

I won't dispute the blowout. However, when these locos were first offered back in 2001 MSRP was $1399.95.
17 years later a $200 MSRP increase seems more reasonable than say.. the $400 increase of the K4 in 5 years because of a tender change.
With the past blowout, this one might be betetr to wait and see verus preordering..

Yes, I think I’ve already posted about this but will weigh in again.
Really like to see Lionel put out some Lion Chief Plus Sets. The Santa Fe set immediately caught my eye but lost interest when I saw that it was plain vanilla LC.
C’mon Lionel! Let’s see LC+ Sets!
A few things I want, but probably won't order any. The Cabooses with the camera look interesting, would love to be able to get a vision line Niagara, or any vision line engine someday, but I don't think that will ever happen.
Would also like to get the at least one Auto-rack, the tank car with freight sounds would be nice as well.
All in all a lot of things I would like, but will probably never get.
Nothing. I'm ordering from the post-war catalog.....LOL

Hi Blue Streak

Although Lionel has never produced CORRECT models of Southern Pacific "P Class" Pacifics, Sunset/3rd Rail sure did, and they are beautiful.

Oil Pump "nodding donkey"
Peanuts Box Car

I would think a viable alternative to LC+ sets might be to sell LC+ engines that match the sets. They already will have tooled up the shells, it would seem to be no big deal to make the LC+ insides as well. That way, if you want to upgrade your engine it would be available to you. So, one year after the starter set, the next year offer the upgraded loco.
Or, offer a choice: a lower priced LC set or an upgraded complete LC+ set. I'm hoping we see one of these soon.
I think that this is a great catalog and a number of things to fill out my collection including the flag cars, cam cupola caboose, RPO cars, and possibly a Niagra (although the jury is still out).
The one thing that caught my eye that I couldn’t understand (and not in a griping way but more of ‘perhaps I’ve missed something’ way)... Why the $400 price tag on the 2 packs of heavyweights? Have they changed in some way? Weren’t the four packs around $450? Now escalated to $200 (say $175 street price) per car? Seems steep without changes... just curious...

Good point, but the 2 6 6 2 wasn’t worth $1,399 then, and it’s not now.
i picked up my NKP TMCC version when they were blown out the first time.

Agreed.
Also it occurred to me after I posted earlier that Lionel did do matching passenger cars for some of the first LC+ steamers (may have been the Pacifics?). Not true sets, per se, but they did present them in the catalog as items that could be paired up.
Looks like I picked the right year to start building a yellow PRR MOW train! I will definitely be in for the yellow gla 3 pack!
Also considering the Coal goes to war 3 pack, but might skip cus i was planning on picking up the atlas h21 hoppers that were recently announced... or i might just oder them all.
The PRR and LIRR RPO cars are also both on my radar, ive been buying a lot of head end equipment lately and i think i can use a few more.
A 30k Gal tank car with sounds will also be finding its way into my modern freight consist for sure!
I like the WIFI camera cabooses, Santa Fe and maybe UP. I think the Lionel camera should be decent quality as mini cameras are not expensive. I have been using several drone mini wifi cameras on my trains. You can get a Droneview wifi camera for $40 which has very good wifi picture with recording capability. I hope Lionel adds cameras to some dummy engines in the future. Then you could get engineer view on track ahead.
I will pass on the sound tank cars until I hear quality of the sound. I have the Vision Ethanol and Vision Reefer ,which are great. I have the 2017 PS-1 sound boxcars, not so great.
Maybe a KCS SD70ace to go with my KCS SD70mac
I looked through every page of the new catalog and its great for the true deep pockets O scale operator but that is a narrow niche. The O gauge toy stuff reminds me of when Lionel tried to broaden the offering in the 1960's with all kinds of odd stuff. Sadly I didn't find much for what I am doing here. IMO this offering is of a company in trouble.
RickO posted:...With the past blowout, this one might be betetr to wait and see verus preordering..
Unless somebody is REALLY looking for a specific locomotive roadname, it's ALWAYS better to wait vs. pre-ordering. The 15% discount sales (sometimes with free shipping) are often MUCH better than the best pre-order prices. And I'm not talking about the MAP pre-order prices either... I'm talking about the lower pre-order prices that go unadvertised. It's still better to wait things out. For example, I can't recall ANY dealer who offered Lionel's S2 Tinplate Prewar Inspired train set at $725. But that was the set's price during a New Year's Day sale just a couple of weeks after the sets hit dealer shelves in December.

"B&O 2-6-6-4"
"Thanks Hot Water, I'm aware they didn't have any that's why I'm not so excited about it. Well the only pictures I can find of B&O 2-6-6-4 are KB-1. They looked a little different than this. But on the other hand Lionel doesn't like to make B&O steam very often."
Lionel's is not a 2-6-6-4; it is a 2-6-6-2. Indeed, these locos are the USRA 2-6-6-2, modifed a bit here and there.
