Me thinks you will literally run yourself ragged trying all of York in one day. But a few times i have found myself nearly having done that without thinking about it until I see myself AGAIN staring at the Orange hall, my favorite!
By all means try.....it also helps to ride those little buses.
redjimmy.....what you say is true.......but, I only have Thursday open this year.....my feeling is that one day at York is better than NO day at York!

In my experience, most dealers, as in table holders in the dealer halls, will take a credit card. Most member table holders, those in the non-dealer halls, do not take credit cards. And many are hesitant to take a check.
Enjoy the show.
In general, you will pay a premium for using credit cards. Most dealers will "discount the item to cover the sales tax" if you pay with cash. They will add the tax if paying with plastic. Paying by check can go either way, depending on the dealer. And I've rarely had someone refuse to take a check.
I always go on Thursday only. I go to the Orange hall first most of the time. Then the Brown hall. Then the Purple hall. Then the member halls. No order on the member halls. Yeah, it can be done in one day but I probably miss some things too. But, that's the way I do it. You might say "I do it MYYYYYYY WAYYYYYYYYYY".

The guys who insist on seeing all of York in one day go flying through the member halls making it difficult to stop and really look at things for the rest of us. I get tired of getting bumped or having to move for the speeders. Thats my take on it.
Rob
Rob, I agree with you, and when they fly they are usually go down the isles the wrong way.
I never had a problem doing York in a day. The biggest problem is the people that think they are at WalMart and stop in the middle of the isle and have a long conversation like it's old home week. Besides not everyone is interested in old trains, just like not everyone is interested in new trains.
Always do it in one day on Thursday. You just have to watch out for the maniacs on the scooters.
I also do the show in one day. Thursday is a busy day for me. 5 1/2 hr drive from Canton Ohio. There by opening. Stay til 6pm. Drive another 5 1/2 hrs.home. I guess I am one of those "speeders" that make their way through the halls. Jmiller, you are right. Why do those guys have to stop in the middle of the aisles and talk? It sure would be easier if the show would open up at 9am instead of noon. I keep hoping the show will start to open at 9am. I like that 'speeder" label.(amusing) BTW, not only am I a speeder at the show, I am also a "speeder" on the PA turnpike on the way home.

I don't mind if someone wants to look at things but consider everyone behind you. Don't stop in the middle of the road. I move fast. Fast enough to cover every building twice (usually), lunch, and the Friday OGR gathering plus driving (2 hours each way, driving usually well above the speed limit!). I know what I want to see and potentially buy. All the other junk I pass over. I don't want people on top of me so I don't get on top of them as long as there is some common courtesy shown by all.
Jini5, they have finally raised the speed limit (legally) to 70 MPH on PA turnpike. Didn't know if you knew that or not.

If you're at an event, any event attended by a few thousand people, and don't expect to get bumped into, you need to get out more. Sure, there are people who don't look where they are going or ignore common courtesy, and most bumps are accidental. It's no different than anything else in normal day to day life. We're all tough guys, we can take it!
And people in scooters or wheelchairs? Same thing. Be careful how you berate them, someday YOU may need a scooter to get around the York Meet! Or anywhere else.

I agree, the "family reunions" mid-aisle are bad news. The fact that the dealers have to sit in the narrow aisles doesn't help.
Can we have a thread about the York train show without the negativity creeping in?
Does the truth hurt? Maybe some of you need to take off your rose colored glasses.
If I only had 1 day to see York I would go on Friday and would start in the member halls. Member halls close at 5pm and dealer halls at 7pm so you should have plenty of time to see all if you do it in that order. I always take a set amount of cash and when that is spent I'm done. Love the show at York..

I think that no matter what is being discussed, there are people who can easily come up with something negative to say.
I attend a few different kinds swap meets, both indoors and outdoors. If the show is crowded, I think I can expect to get bumped into now and then. Most folks try not to bump into anyone, but it happens. If the crowd (and bumping) bothered me, I'd stay home.
I usually do York in one day, Friday. However now that I take the grandson up on Saturday I do get a second or third look at a couple of the halls but rarely do I find anything new I'd like but when I do they are usually looking to deal. The only caveat about zooming thru the halls, be extra diligent looking at an item before you buy, picked up a docksider last time and didn't notice til I got home that one of the couplers was broken, got a new one from a forumite fairly cheaply so it worked out. As for bumping people, I've never ran into someone and when I'm looking over a table I tend to stay near it and not block the aisle.
