I have a WM 2-8-0 ps2 engine.  Its been a while sine I have ran it, I have it on the track, none of its lights come on. And my app cant find it, I am using the TIU with the wifi unit.  App will say adding engine and then time out. I can run the engine in conventional mode, but I have 4 other engines I am trying to run it with.

I tried it as the only engine on the track and still nothing.  Any way to upgrade PS2 to PS3?

I'd figure out what's going on with this one, there's no significant advantage to upgrading it to PS/3, and you'll be a lot poorer.

So I have 4 other MTH engine all with PS3 and I have never had a single issue. So I'm just looking at the odd man out here. Thanks for the help!-PA

  1. If the PS2 engine is already in your engine library, try to delete that engine, then re-add back to your engine roster and see if the APP finds the engine and can power up?
  2. If you can easily disconnect a channel set of your layout tiu wire, have you tried to see if the app/tiu can locate the engine on a small separate piece of test track?

Well?? He said he can't add it right?

So number one, run the engine in conventional. Kill the power. how long does it do the shut down?

If the battery is dead or dying, it won't add properly.

If it's a signal strength issue, I'd suggest adding it on a short piece of track with nothing else getting power.

Are any of your other engines PS2? If not, you may have the polarity swapped to the TIU.

What's your signal strength using another engine?

IN no particular  I after playing with it I think it must be the battery.

I have no other PS2 engines,

It was the in app but could not be re-added

Polarity was not swapped, because I was able to run the ps2 engine in conventional mode and bell and horn worked, in the past, if the polarity was swapped those would not work correctly.

Thank you all for you help, i forgot that the PS2's use a battery, when I cut the power it dies in seconds.

So on to the next issue any one want to buy a WM 2-8-0 ps2 with a bad battery?

Good to hear you narrowed it down due to the immediate sound cut off when powered down.  If you don't have a replacement NiMh 9v handy, confirm w/ a TEMPORARY swap w/ a good 9v alkaline to see if all works OK after the temporary swap.  Depending upon how much you run this PS2 engine and wish to keep it, you can either purchase a replacement 9v NiMH for about $4 each from Amazon that will likely last 5 yrs or more or spend about $25 on a J&W BCR for the semi-permanent solution.  No sense to throw out the baby w/ the bathwater.

OK so new 9 volt battery in and BAM it shows up in the app and all is well once again! Again thank you all!  I think $25 for a J&W BCR seems like a fair price to me for not having to remember this again.

2 small follow up questions:

1. I am missing one of the builders plates any one know a source on replacements?

2. Is there any way to replace the cord with a wireless draw bar? I realy dislike the look of the cord and would love to have it replaced.  I figured there is no harm in asking.
