Thanks for posting the video. This is a good first step.
The 611 is my favorite prototype steam locomotive. The first time I saw it in operation is when I and some friends saw it in St. Louis. It was the first time I got close to a steam locomotive. I was in total awe....just could not believe the size of the drivers...WOW!! It seemed like it was alive... I am so glad that it will be back in operation.

Sounded like the Engineer was moving the throttle between #1 and #2 in order to maintain a very slow speed.
Yep...he need a "Notch 1.5" for this move. Notch 1 wasn't enough and Notch 2 was too much.
I got a cab ride on the Ohio Central a few years back. We were switching a couple of industry spurs in the Youngstown area. CSX had spotted a cut of cars on the wrong side of a switch that we had to move. It was a big cut of Gons full of scrap and we we just a single GP10. It literally took 5 minutes of the engineer bouncing between Notch 1 and 2 just to get us to 1mph. Almost had to give up and go get the GP40, which of course I was all in favor of
I can't wait for the 611 to get back under steam. What a great time to be a railfan
The 611 is now at Spencer.
Been there and done that! In Youngstown, too! I was the Superintendent of Operations there. Who was the engineer?
There are times when Notch #2 pulls much better than Notch #8.

Not knowing that the real 611 was being moved, I ran my Lionel scale 611 today on my Free State Junction RR .... sort of a tribute
This is a video of the 611 being pulled out yesterday as posted on the Roanoke NRHS Mechanical Department's facebook page.

I 100% agree with this statement. Look at all the mainline steam under restoration or running. I was way too young and my father wasn't a train fan back in the 80's early 90's to see the 1st wave of mainline steam excursions. I can not wait to see the 611, 4014, 1309, and others up and running. Me and my son will enjoy railfanning together!
Sounds like she didn't want to move too easy!! the engineer had to keep going up a couple notches to keep her rolling!
thanks for the great video.
She moved just fine.
Just fine!......She's N&W, and has roller bearings on everything, including the engineer's lunch pail !
