My early MTH Proto 1.0--the #1396 and #1401 have both marker and backup lights.

My Lionel #1396 and #1403 and the Weaver #1380 "Tennessean" have neither marker nor backup lights.

I don't know about the early Williams Brass Ps-4 and I ain't diving for it today.

I notice that my K-Line Mikados have both marker and backup.

The Lionel Mikados have a backup on top of the tender deck.

The "J"s, including Williams, all have a backup light.

I was at my LHS today and heard the whistle on the new MTH Crescent Limited set.  It does have a quillable whistle.  The quillable whistle is different sounding whistle than the normal whistle on the engine.  In other words there are 2 different sounding whistles on this engine. The quillable whistle is not demonstrated on the video on MTH's website, but the normal whistle is. MTH used this same whistle on their Southern Kanawha which they made back in 2010.  Ken

All of them including the set have the quillable whistle. It is not the same as the whistle from pressing the whistle button on the remote. It is a higher pitch. Hope this helps. Happy railroading!

And if you want the most accurate heavyweight passenger cars, look for the custom run GGD put out a few years back. But seeing as how there were only 20 sets made, that might be kinda impossible.

Lionel's PS4 sucks! I like Lionel but they messed up with the Ps4 they released. Its crew talk is horribly inaccurate. New York accent on a Southern engine, I dont think so.

I have both the Lionel’s Legacy Crescent Limited and MTH's Queen & Crescent Limited Ps-4 with Protosounds 3.  The Crescent Limited is one of my favorite passenger trains.  I just purchased MTH’s model last week and I like both manufactures models of this engine.  I run both at the same time and each has their own good features.

I like the quillable whistle and sound quality of Lionel’s Crescent Limited.  The whistle smoke effect is very nice feature as well. Yes, the  crew talk is the generic crew talk that Lionel has used on many of it’s Legacy engines and not right for the Crescent Limited.   In my opinion MTH sound quality with Protosounds 3 is good, but not as good as Legacy.  MTH's "quillable" whistle is really a second whistle...and not quillable like Lionel's.

I also found an alternate horn in DCS menu on MTH’s Queen & Crescent Limited which is nice additional sound feature.  I was on the fence weather to buy MTH’s model but I am glad I did.  I have MTH’s Crescent Limited with Protosound 2, so I was not interested in getting the passenger set.  However, Protosound 3 sound quality is better than Protosounds 2 model.  In addition, I now look forward to double heading my Protosounds 2 and Protosounds 3 engines together.   Everyone has their own opinion, but I think Lionel’s and MTH’s models are both nice engines.  Here are a few pictures on my new Queen & Crescent Limited.   Ken
