Park Locomotive

I know I saw pictures of someone who had a 4-4-0 General sitting in a park on their layout and I really like the idea. Maybe I will do that one day, if I find the room for a park.

 

I had done it once, after being inspired from a ride around Horseshoe Curve.  I'm sure it can be done on a much more elaborate scale, but all I really did was take enough straight track to hold the locomotive and use Plasticville or another brand of white picket fence to go around it.

 

That's the simplest way to go, and I'm sure others have done much more for a park loco.

Here you go - a 4-4-0 on display on the famous Muleshoe Curve (only two tracks).

A recent thread dealt with an old plastic "O" Gauge AHM Indiana Harbor Belt 3-cylinder 0-8-0 on display in a park. I think it was weathered to look run-down.

Our Junior member Josh (Tallulah Falls RR) built this track and scene under a bridge from my old layout on the new club layout. He plans to add a fence and more details soon.

It's a great idea if you have the space and want to display a certain locomotive.

 

The most elaborate one I saw was on an N-Track module where there was literally a "Travel Town" style museum with several locomotives "on display" with a connector track to one of the mainlines. The whole thing was fenced with a gate to the mainline connection.

Either on the Forum here or in one of the mags was a thread/article about doing that recently. On my old Lay-out [no pics] I had a Lionelville #50 Trolly sitting beside the track on a piece of track, as this is where the RR started [same idea].

Sam, you'd better call the railroad police. There's some foamer sitting in the fireman's seat of your park engine.  :-p

Check out the Lemax carnival rides. Pats trains sells them and that is where I got mine.   They are much cheaper than the Lionel rides

Just "rusted" with the tender coal area sheet metaled over...guess that gives me an out for not having to find the drive unit for my kit!

Thanks for sharing photos of your layout. It looks great. Has your layout been featured in OGR?

I have a Rail King Bantam N&J that will go into the park until I can get a more conventional steamer for the park. I think the park steamer will be on a section of track so the drivers are a few thousands of an inch off the rails enabling the drivers to turn. A momentary push-button switch will put power to the park engine.

You could add a sign that says NO FOAMERS - FOAMERS beneath a red circle with a diagonal bar

 

Or, on the other hand, a sign that says OGR FORUM MEMBERS WELCOME

How about a display "scene" as mentioned but change out the locomotive every so often. Thus changing the over all scene or scenes.

I am in the process of setting up a "park'. I have a carousel and am looking for some "park" equipment (swing set, slides, or?). Tried "Want to buy" on the Forum--no luck. Any suggestions about where I might look? Local hobby shop has nothing in O-gauge.

 

I have an older "General" that I will also use as a display (good idea).
