Lionel Lines livery to save licensing costs, unless Amtrak is reasonable.
Iʻm all for nostalgia but if you want to attract younger folks Lionel has to move into the 21st century!

What would be even more nationally appealing would be S scale proportioned and Traditional O gauge proportioned regional commuter trains with MPI passenger locomotives and matching Bi-Level coaches.
They finally need to make the commuter cars with hinged roofs so that the commuter figures can be added and removed.

A Vision RS3, with fixed or kinematic pilots, road specific detail, detailed cabs, real recorded alco sounds. Could make every road name under the sun.
It would be nice to see and scale SD50 and a SuperBass unit to go with it.

Yep. I have all the Lionel ACW items on order and would love to see the open air cars. I think if they get the colors right this will be a big seller!
FYI the ACW recently made a publicity run with their F7 train. I drove 2 hours to take a photo at a particular place so I could get a nice open shot of the whole train (I picked the spot using Apple Maps). I was running early so I stopped to make a pit stop at a gas station about a mile away from the prime spot. As I got out of my car I heard the familiar F horn so I stepped a few yards behind the gas station and snapped this. Not exactly what I wanted but still pretty sweet. Then drove 2 hours home.
They never will do it, but I want Metroliners!

I would like a re-run of the N&W Y6B with some vision features. Such as force coupler, a 3 speaker sound system & dynamo smoke. I would also love to see them do the Y6a, a correct N&W caboose, a Vision line N&W water tender & freight sounds coal hoppers.
Im excited for the Vision class A’s which will be here soon, so I’m hoping to see more N&W offerings in the new catalog.

My representation of the 2nd generation Metroliner cars on my layout is through the MTH Amfleet cars (now suffering with zinc pest). I believe Metroliner and Amfleet used the same cars with the difference being the interiors. I used to travel on them frequently.
The first generation of Metroliner cars were the self-powered Budd's which were taken out of service in favor of the Amfleet cars pulled by the GG1, E60 and eventually, the AEM-7.
I don't recall any manufacturer doing either generation of Metroliners.

I too have the ACW train on order. Very excited. The colors are key - Lionel needs to nail this one.

To my knowledge, only two companies made Metroliners: Elliot Welz and Williams but they are rather toy-like. Please see videos posted from other OGR members on my thread here: METROLINERS - Let's get them made!
Lionel already has the Amfleet Cab Car, all they need to do is add some details, put a pantograph on it, and make it powered. However, electric engines have not been selling well lately (recalling the MTH AEM/ALP delays/cancelations and how long it took Scott Mann to sell off the NYC motors).
I am forever hopeful.

On my workbench right now I'm doing an ERR CC conversion of the MTH PS1 AEM-7 to TMCC. After I'm completed, it will have few Amtrak cars to pull because all the original knuckles and armatures are now disintegrating with no replacement couplers left in MTH stock. I think I bought the last 4 spares MTH had in their inventory.

I have both metroliner sets and I agree they are pretty "toylike" sitting across the platform from an Atlas or GGD model. They hold up okay with no one else around, but I agree that it's time for a scale model.
What I really want Lionel to do is get a cafe/dinette made. Lionel Amfleets do not mix well with any other Amfleet models, so a Lionel Amtrak train often leaves the station without refreshments. I'm kinda surprised they never made tooling for a café car!
An Amfleet II from any manufacturer would also be nice. Lionel could have had a hit by making those from the beginning. MTH owners bought the original cab car because it was the only one available. People definitely would have bought an Amfleet II or a business/cafe combo car. The big brands could've gotten away with more if they complemented each other rather than competing with versions of the same prototypes.
A good start, would be to produce a version of their so called scale engines , in kit form , similar to the 700E, but with the addition 1 A section ( Kit with scale insulated wheel sets ). 2 A section with all "Their" electronics , (sounds , lighting , smoke , ect. )

This would be interesting. Money would be saved in assembly, and then packing them would probably be easier and prevent damage. Plus the satisfaction of building your own locomotive would be cool.
When Lionel released the Friendship Train PS-1 boxcars and passenger cars a few years ago, they indicated there would be more to come. It would be nice to see them in the next catalog.
Cooked up an idea for a nerf themed train set while I was bored out of my mind at work. Retool either the cannon or missile launcher cars to load and fire nerf darts, add a flatcar for extra dart storage, and if the tooling still exists, throw in that exploding boxcar for a little more play value.
Semi scale 2-8-0. Every RR had 2-8-0s. JohnA

I bet this would be a money maker to be honest. Kids love Nerf, adults love Nerf. Very good idea!
A question was asked at the recent LCCA Convention, (July 2022 in Nashville, Tennessee) will Lionel consider offering a new updated VisionLine J1e scale Hudson? The answer, it’s a high probability for 2024, and hopefully it will become reality. I would really like a new VisionLine Hudson with all the new features. (Pittman motor this time) Happy Railroading Everyone

Unfortunately it seems Zinc pest is an item to fear with modern model train production and we have no way of knowing if the spares are better than the failed production items.

I really liked the blue ATSF F-units from Menards that sold out today. I’d be in for a Legacy A-A set painted similarly.
OMG are you kidding me? Menard's just sold out a freight santa fe? I just checked their website for the warbonnet and someone told me that was just a small run to never be made again!
I would like to see Lionel offer a special car for Autism Awareness/Acceptance. Many moderers/future modelers are on the autism spectrum just like I am. I have made a few custom cars of my own, but would love Lionel to offer at least a box car or tank car. Love of trains is one of the many things that seems to be common among those on the spectrum and I know many that got their start or still model with Lionel. Just like I did in the late 1970's. AD
In keeping with what are my favorite items from the last 2 years, the Vision Line Stock cars, how about a Scale-sized poultry car? As the only previous O-scale-sized poultry cars were brass 2-rail cars, they could sell the cars without sound individually as well as in the 3 pack with the sound car. Not sure what the "secret" AUX3 sound would be for it, though, a chicken stampede doesn't seem too likely. Maybe a Foghorn Leghorn clip?
Now that there are four add-on cars for the latest LionChief Santa Fe Super Chief set, it would be nice to see a matching (paint, running speed) powered FTB engine that responds to the LionChief controller included in the set. This FTB unit needs to have Railsounds but no announcements unless the announcements are sufficiently delayed so as to not overlap with the FTA engine announcements. I know, I know, dream on, and not just about the announcements.
At this stage in my life there are no items I "need", and very few I want since nearly everything is a reissue. I guess maybe:
- Burlington Northern SD40-2 with in Bicentennial colors and cab #1876. I can run this with my Lionel Legacy BN U30 #1776 just like the real American Freedom Train did, pulling my AFT consist.
- Additional Friendship Train boxcars, but only if the fix the trucks. However, there are plenty of photos on the web of cars with placards that were on the FT, and many would be easy to duplicate.
- Typing the above reminded me I would like to see replacement trucks for those terrible ones that came with the FT cars and some others. (I'd use different words but I don't want this deleted).
Who knows, they may come up with something new that I may want, like the horse car they just did.
I wish Lionel will return to printing the entire catalog, not just the preorder items. I realize that paper availability and cost are issues--although they've eased somewhat--but the lack of a complete hard-copy catalog has definitely reduced my Lionel purchases. I'm just not aware of what they're offering outside of the items in the mini print catalog.
It's not that I'm afraid of tech and doing things online. My layout fully integrates LCS and apps. But I'm just not into browsing product catalogs (or reading magazines, for that matter) online. I used to keep the current Lionel Big Book catalog next to my easy chair and would pick it up periodically. I knew what Lionel was offering, and, as my interests and needs evolved throughout the year, I wound up pulling the trigger on various items. Not so this year...

Ron, Lionel just came out with the Legacy BN SD40 #1876. Trainworld has 3 left online. Hope this helps.
