One more reminder.....PLEASE note when you post a photo whether you took the picture yourself or it is a picture in which you have permission to post from the owner (not talking about manufacturer's catalog pictures).  If you do not have permission from the owner of the picture, then DO NOT POST it.  If you do have permission, then supply a copy of that permission to OGR.  We are not going to risk copyright problems again and I feel it is not that much trouble for you to just post a link in a thread to a picture that is not yours and you want others to see....just post the link!!

Just mention in your post that you took the picture.  Keep in mind that if you "own" a book, etc. with pictures in it does not mean you can scan and post them.  Just want to be clear.  You can review our copyright policy in our TOS at the top of the forum pages and within the featured topics there is a more detailed discussion.

Thanks, sorry I deleted the original post to rewrite it, thanks for clarification,  I just wanted to make sure we had the base rules down to everyone can play by them! Thanks much!!!

For everyone else, original question was how to give credit for own work or what template is needed to correctly give credit/approval of work.

All folks need to do is to make sure they have read our TOS.  As long as they do so, in most cases there will not be a problem.

I'd personally like to see some newly tooled boxcars to represent modern freight operations. Particularly, I'd like to see a 50' high cube boxcar with the crossing support beams that is commonly seen in the FBOX reporting mark. I'd also like to see a  TBOX 60' high cube boxcar with either the vertical only supports or the crossing supports.

Specifically the National Steel Car built FBOX TTX high-cube 50' box cars.

What I am going to suggest wouldn't really be a catalog item. But I had the idea of what I think Lionel should try next and this might get a little long winded but hear me out.

Lionel offered a special boxed set of wide radius track briefly in the post war period. It was the only way to get O72 track at the time.

I often hear a desire for Lionel to do something with Super O track again or how they should have made a wide radius version.

My solution is to offer up a box of 16 sections of O72 Super O track. Nothing more. Nothing less. Nothing else. That is it. A box of 16 pieces.

My thought on how to sell this and to make sure it sells, is to do as many other toy manufacturers have done. Crowd Fund.

Lionel can set up a special section of their online store and say that a box cost so much. We need to sell so many boxes to make this work and then start doing pre-sales. If it doesn't meet the quota, no one is out anything but time. I'd offer some type of early bird incentive like a free "Super O" shirt if you order a box within the first week. I'd also have a deal where if they sell so much over the minimum every "backer" gets a free special boxcar that advertises Super O track.

Good or bad the "crowd funding" style is here. Why shouldn't Lionel try it out on some niche items? If what ever they offer doesn't make the cut they are only out the time. No money would be wasted on tools and dies and such if no one wants it. But if it does make it to the finish line they can collect the money and finance the manufacturing and move onto the next idea.

One last thing I'd add is maybe a multi-box incentive. Which if they priced it right, I feel like most folks would be in for 2 boxes regardless.

RamblerDon,

Excellent idea, but I think that it wouldn't turn out the way we want, i.e., it wouldn't be O-36 upped to O-72 the way it could have been when Super O was originally being manufactured. There would be compromises, the copper blade, pins, the tough plastic, maybe even the overall form. And those changes I wouldn't be interested in.

But I like your idea as a way to find out.

Has someone already mentioned a scale Pennsylvania T1 Duplex? Lionel last cataloged this over 20 years ago.

I'm hoping the few offerings for Moguls in the last catalog portends a larger selection in this next one.

I'd love to see a New Haven mogul, using the arched window cab tooling that Lionel has for the B&M versions. The cabs are separate pieces on these engines, so applying the arched window cab to the closest boiler variant should be trivial.

If Lionel added the arched cab to what Mr. Muffins has depicted for his NYO&W special run (with (1) the bell between the sand and steam domes, (2) boiler centered headlight with number board, and (3) no stairs from the pilot to the running board) it would be nearly spot on for a class K-1-b engine, of which the New Haven had 240. Some fantastic pictures at the link below.

As a New Haven fan, I would love to see a New Haven Mogul from Lionel. The smaller legacy steam engines have been very popular and this would continue that trend very well. I think a lot of fans of northeastern roads would appreciate that model as well! I would also love to see a Rutland or Central Vermont mogul again.

Now that we know that Lionel did a great job on the colors of the Aberdeen Carolina & Western I hope that they finish off the train with the remaining 3 cars that have not been cataloged yet (I got these images from my iPhone video):

Yes, the Red Rocks route has ex UP SD70Ms since the GP40s weren't PTC compliant originally. I believe 2 GP40s have since been assigned to the Red Rocks route. Either way, this would be an awesome set. Still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on the MTH set.  I did the Vancouver to Banff trip this past spring and it was amazing. Definitely want to do the Red Rocks trip in the near future.

Rob

I (and my son) would love Lionel versions. The MTH versions are a top wish list item.

I drive by where they stage the train in Denver every day with my son on the way to school (so we can see the "pretty diesels"). There are 2 GP40s that started the summer pulling the train, vanished for about 6 weeks (with SD70s instead), and then came back. They are just sitting in the UP yard right now.

I am wishing for an updated scale Polar Express. I’m also wishing that Lionel purchased MTH’s British steam tooling and is going to produce more of them.

I can’t help but wonder if the tooling for Lima’s British Railways coaches are still out the somewhere. I would love to be able to upgrade from the shorty “Harry Potter” coaches to something more realistic.

Come to think of it, full-length British Railways “Harry Potter” coaches would be nice, too.

I run only command engines, so this may be a stupid question.  Except for the early LionChief locos, can't all of Lionel's engines with their various command/control systems run in conventional?

Not a stupid question at all! Yes, all modern Legacy and TMCC locomotives can run in conventional. I do it with my TMCC locomotives with pullmore motors. It is done by simply disconnecting the ground wire from the Cab1 or Cab2 base. This disconnects the radio signal. When power is put to the locomotive it automatically goes into conventional mode. No need to reprogram it every time. Sometimes if a locomotive is starting up even with the ground wire connected can be a sight of bad grounding, or a problem with the base.

Well, I understand what the poster (Darrell) is asking for and I think I get his drift. Many of us have hoped Lionel would offer some "pure conventional" locos/sets in the same vein as the old "Conventional Classics." These were remakes of classic Lionel locos and sets with no command control of any flavor. Also, the Alco AA Set with the green passenger 2400 series passenger cars comes to mind. Then there was the Santa Fe anniversary set from a few years back.

Sure, command equipment can be run conventionally but I think the idea is for something as described above.

Only a week(or so) before that next catalog drops. I sort of wonder if this will be a fair sized catalog or a very heavy one, that is as far as what is being offered? With the Big Boy coming back around, that will surely(and don't call me Shirley) dominate the front of the catalog with quite a few pages for road numbers, maybe 4-6 pages? I would think that they would offer something else with it too.

So, then what Legacy steam/diesel offerings would come our way? Maybe 8-10 pages of steam, 12-16 pages of diesel? I would imagine that they should have a set for steam and diesel, any electric engines in the mix?

I am still hoping for a scale S2 Turbine with actual coal load, not cast in. I think they should be able to do that to get a win on that. Yeah, we all want that scale T1 Duplex as well, considering how the real life project is coming along, they have to be moving towards bringing one back to the small rails.

Diesels, what diesels would I go for at the moment? That I'm not sure, I bit on the E8's was it, and the Sharks, what else could I bite on? Maybe an F Series diesel, but I can sit and wait some more if I have to.

Electrics, that has me stuck. I would want a GG1 that is scale, but not like the VL version from a bit ago. There could be another electric I'm not thinking about or know about, guess we'll all have to wait and see, eh?
