Mike thanks I use evergreen styrene for the side rail and evergreen Channel for the small steel stakes 

I thought I would work on this old Berkshire van trailer. A very good trucker friend of mine gave this to me around 2005 but I never finished it. I never liked the Berkshire suspension so I replaced it with a Revell Mobil Tanker trailer one and added the landing gear and spare tire rack from that kit. Hope to decal it soon and finish it and get it on the layout

For those not familiar, this is a four lane road, and one of the main thoroughfares in the village of Mineola which passes under the Oyster Bay branch line that I’m modeling. Built and wired up a little switchboard for old-school toggles for the five sidings. My first foray into blocks! (Still have to hide the wires.)

It’s a pretty rudimentary layout but I’m having fun with it. Looking forward to doing the scenery.

Sorry Andy, the first thing I thought of was this:

I bet many of truck drivers have lost their jobs because of this bridge in n.c.

We've got a couple of similar RR overpasses near me. One I pass on my daily commute is 10'6". All the signs and flashing lights in the world don't stop clueless truck drivers. Yea- the rental's take it the hardest but I've seen some good ones over the years. The best was a brand new CAT track hoe with the cab ripped off- the bucket didn't even look like it had touched dirt yet.

In the video my favorite shots are the campers getting their AC's ripped off. I wonder if any of the drivers even knew they hit the bridge.

I think a new RV A/C unit is about $600.00 each to replace.  Watching trucks get lowered priceless.

Kevin, Nice start to your layout! I have a drone also, just cant figure out how to make it fly smoothly ! LOL

Elliot, I did notice that the rental companies lost a lot of inventory and money do to that bridge!

Today I hope to get out to clean up the layout area before I continue on my control panel !

Am I the only one who suspects @briansilvermustang works for Google Advertising?  We mention a railroad, and magically photos show up in our feed.

Great pic of that assortment of steam power. One question though - how does all that greenery grow in the midst of the cinders, ashes, oil, coal dust, and other stuff i always found when i wandered around the real railroad (D&H, NYS&W, FJ&G) yards? All i ever saw was very grimy dirt.

Very true. Over time I’ll probably add more oil spills and mess.  I’ve seen turntable areas done a few ways. I wanted to break up the look of all gravel/ ballast too.

Very true. Over time I’ll probably add more oil spills and mess.  I’ve seen turntable areas done a few ways. I wanted to break up the look of all gravel/ ballast too.  

I understand - often a light spray (rattle can) of black on the gravel will do the job - also adding HO scale coal works too.

Scenery scares me!!!!   

I did get most of the new wall done. Patch, mud, sand it....... Got the new 3x8 table in!!! Will get the plywood to top it in a few minutes. The train keeps a rollin!!!!!!

Jim, It is funny, scenery is my favorite part.  I can goof up, and often no one knows the difference!  The new wall and 3x8 look great!  See, my 3x8 would probably end up 3' 1/2"x 7' 11 7/8"x 2' 11 3/4"x 8' 1/8".  And no, I don't measure twice and cut once; I measure thrice and cut once!

I'll start off with yesterday. When I got home from the train show my package from Angiestrackside flats was on the steps waiting for me. Periodically I check his site to see if he has done any new buildings and I liked the look of this one. Today I got an early start on the shelves. First I had to take all the stuff off of them. The hardest part was finding somewhere to put the cans LOL. But I got the shelf out. The back half will come out at another time. And seeing that I am a union person, it is time for a coffee break LOL. Then I'll go back down to measure and cut wood for the new table. Pics......Paul

Paul, That is a really good looking flat!!  You made quick work of those shelves once you cleared them off.  The big question is, where are you going to mount the pencil sharpener??  Last summer while going through a lot of stuff in my parent's basement, one daughter pointed out that every old house has a pencil sharpener attached to a wall, post, or somewhere.  We have one, our old house had one, her house has one, our other daughter's house has one, my parents' house has one,...  

To 3,500 and beyond: A Toy Story.

I have been painting the next seated people, sipping my coffee, dipping the brush in the wash water, and sometimes into my coffee by mistake.

It was another late night painting Preiser 65602 Unpainted Seated People.  This was the result of three nights of painting: 65 more Seated People assigned to the new Lionel Union Pacific Add-on two packs of "Challenger" and "Excursion" 21" passenger cars that will arrive later this year.

The next box of  twenty-four is open, and I will start them tonight, Sunday, January 27, 2019.  I have at least twelve more boxes to do, then 200 more figures coming from China. Some of the people in specific poses are no longer available from Preiser.

I will continue to paint people all the way to March Madness and through the tournament.  That will put me easily over 3,500 people painted and on my way toward 4,000 - "To infinity and beyond."

  I have two vintage crank style pencil sharpeners. One in the basement next to that levels wall phone, and another hides on the inside of a kitchen cupboard, up high on the backside of a cupboard door.

  I love the smell of cut cedar and will open the cupboard just for a sniff every now and then, and my Ticonderoga HB2's(the black ones) and my Blackwing family demand a great sharpener.  (If you have any vintage square eraser Blackwings, you may want to stop using them and check the collectors value. Just a few may buy you a new engine )

How many different poses are there?  Do you sort them before paint?  After they are painted, do you sort them so you can easily retrieve individual figures for specific placement?
