I took don off a shelf an old Lionel #810 O gauge crane car that I have had for some years. Don't think I have ever run it although it is in nice shape. Only problem was a missing hook with a busted cord. I cleaned it and lubed the gears, fixed the cord and put a hook on it that I salvaged from a gantry crane.Put together a short work crane and ran it on my layout. If this crappy weather keeps up I think I will get to fixing up all my project cars and engines.

I finally finished the work for the ground and rock walls of the PW layout I have been building over the last 3 months. It came out pretty good thanks to the folks on the OGR forums.  The last one I built was a really bad job be a use I rushed and didn't know about the forums here on OGR.Scenery work is very basic as the layout will be occupied with PW accessories.

Thank you. It really adds depth to the layout. The area in front of the yard is a work in process. We have installed our Atlas O turntable. Once we finish the industrial backdrop in front of the night sky, we can install the stub tracks off of the turntable. But, for now, we need the area where the stub tracks will go to sit and finish the industrial flats backdrop.

Future plans are for a scratch-built round house at the turntable as well as a coaling and sanding facility.

I had a few thing going on

Tore up the left side of my layout and started rewiring lights. After a few false starts, success.  I now have the will have the Lemax gas lights, my buildings, and the light harnesses to my buildings  wired to my aux power on my Z4000.

MY CB&Q NE1/4 waycar project will be finished once the new decals arrive.

True, the company cannot be relied on to support your best interests. A report should be made, though you have no proof, and multiple people had access. Repetitive reports will raise flags eventually which is better than nothing. A social responsibility for you really, regardless of the outcome for you..

Make real sure its not misplaced first

Once you're ready again, I'm sure there are plenty here who will help guide you, just ask.

Thank you everyone for your concern on the theft of the camera but this is not an isolated incident. We are over $20,000.00 in things stolen out of the house. Pain pills, kitchen silverware, power tools, cash, pistols, Laundry soap, toilet paper, paper towels, my mothers needles for her insulin and my gild chain, crucifix and gold earing. The police have been here many times over the 4 years for things being stolen. It is what it is and if it is not locked up, chained down or bolted/screwed shut it will be stolen. It is pretty bad when you have to lock your doors inside the house and run around with A set of keys like A janitor. Take care and thanks again for your concern. Choo Choo Kenny

Choo Choo Kenny,  may be time to set up a concealed camera or two to catch these idiots in the act.  Wireless cameras with motion sensors and internal SD cards are fairly cheap now a days.

Staying within topic now, I worked on a troublesome gargrave switch today that I think I have fixed on numerous occassions but always manages to be an issue.   Gotta stop being so cheap and just replace it but its a vendetta now!

Kenny:  Have you ever thought about getting one or two medium to large size dogs....of a breed that will actually bark (not necessarily bite)....when someone comes to the door/sets foot on your property?  The barking alone TYPICALLY keeps most thieves at bay.  You've obviously become a target.

I'd normally suggest a firearm as well....but having it stolen and on the streets in the wrong hands is a very scary proposition, given that it sounds like one was already taken from you.

BFI66 I have discussed this with my parents about putting in cameras many times and they don't do any thing about it so there is nothing I can do.     Berkshire President it is not that strangers are breaking in it is the aids that are taking care of my mother that are steeling things out of the house. When you go to open up A can of soup and the Can opener is gone it is very frustrating and no one knows what happened to it The thing just vanished in to thin air. Choo Choo Kenny

Do you live in a very high crime area?  I'm wondering why thieves are targeting you, how they gained the knowledge you are a good place to hit?  I've a fully alarmed site and limit visitors tightly.  Very few know what's in the house, except me and Mr. Colt, who has promised to meet and greet any "invaders".

Hello Lee • A Yooper Bar is sold only in Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Yes, you will see them in the lower peninsula or on line.

A Yooper is a person who lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Every time I go fishing or hunting in "YOOPER LAND", I bring some home.

They want to see one unwrapped Gary.

Yeah, the name, in itself, means nothing to me as I'd never heard it before. I was asking what it's made of...

Every region has it's own eats, and one of the most annoying things I've dealt with are when I'm in a new place and someome mentions something like this and I ask what they're talking about. I've had this conversation more than once:

Me: "What do mean by a 'Smedlap Bar'?"

Them: "Well, it's a Smedlap Bar, everyone knows what that is!"
Me: "I don't. I asked what it was, repeating the name doesn't help me much when I just told you I had no idea what you were talking about...:"

Them: "Well, it's... it's a Smedlap Bar!"

Me: "Seriously, you're not hearing me when I say I've never heard the name before, why do you think repeating the same name I still don't know what it means is going to suddenly make me know what it refers to?"

Not if you're not there. I always snicker at people who mention, "Mr Colt" or whatnot because by doing so, a burglar who comes in when you're not there (which is the most likelt scenario), they now will be looking for your firearms as well. I always snicker at people with firearm stickers on their vehicles, which could instead read, "follow me to where I keep firearms" and someone could just note the location for when you're gone.

I have done CQB training with the military and have found that many people simply assume they'll do just fine in a shootout with bad guys in their own home. The reality doesn't bear that out. Gunfire inside a home is LOUD and it's easy even for trained pros to totally screw up and leave an outline of the guy they're shooting at, leaving the intended target untouched.

It ain't so easy to shoot a man anyhow, especially if the son-of-a-b**** is shooting back at you. I mean, that'll just flat rattle some folks.

josef,  I see you have that simulated mars light.  I want to get one for my Southern pacific GS-4 and my F3 aba. jersey central.  did you cut out the number boards or was that factory.  I have to cut mine out.  I have a railking model. so basic Proto 2.  thanks Chris Originally Posted by josef:

The other day I felt good enough to finally go and instal cab lights, controlled by the smoke button, instal simulated MARS light and a lower light. This train along with 4 Williams passenger cars only ran under the tree each year. Don't have video of it running on my layout, but here's a short video of the changes I made, which it never had. I might try other things now.

Been up to Upper MI any number of times and while I did hear the term "Yooper", I never heard of a "Yooper Bar".  One thing that we did try while up there were "Pasties".  Before that I always thought that Pasties were part of a stripper's wardrobe.  But these guys don't even pronounce them like that:  They pronounce that as you would pronounce: Past- eeys.   They were little bakery treats that were pretty good, too.

More on the subject of this thread:  spent the day assembling and modifying some Ameritown parts to add another 5 story building to my main street.  Problem is that in the interest of saving space, the track hidden by my main street buildings, actually runs through as well as behind my main street.   Each building has been reduced in depth to about four inches at the bottom two floors.  The upper floors are the full depth of the buildings themselves.  I still wanted to keep the rear wall intact because most of my buildings now have interiors and clear front glass.  You can't see the shorter depth from the viewing area, so it has been worth all the extra effort.

Love those Ameritown buildings.  Closest thing to "modular buildings" on the market.

Finished the rewiring in the Left corner of the layout. Fixed the wood base and relayed the track on the newly cleaned snow. Nice thing about the bath mats that I using. If you notice in the pics that the top of the rails are pretty much even with the snow cover. Since the track is weathered with snow it blends in nicely. Now to finish wiring the buildings.

The Williams GN FA2 (in the pics) was my tether ( 4 motors, 1 6Amp board) project that is now finished and is running with no issues. At 8.9 its only drawing 1.9 to 2.2 Amps on average. No more if I had a smoke unit running.

We all hope it never comes to that; the best defense is not letting a lot of people know what you have and living in a low-crime area.  I'm home most of the time and when I'm not, the neighbors keep an eye on each other, and question "strangers" if any are seen strolling around.

If I had a worry it would be about the meth freaks who do late-night home invasion robberies.  Look who's at the door before opening it, and never at night.

And hope we don't have to experience the negative side of life.

Anyone who has a firearm for home should have attended some training classes before thinking about using them for self-defense; common sense.
