Hi, I want to wire the Lionel 6-14098 Crossing Gates with Insulated Rail. It says in the catalog this is possible. My problem is when it inters the insulated rail, the gate goes down, but, it stays down after it leaves the insulated rail. Please help. Thanks.

Are the lights still on too? Is the gate staying down because there is still power going to it (them) or are they down because the mechanism is bound up? I would think if the lights go off and the gate stays down, something is binding or rubbing against something it's not supposed to.

Hopefully someone more familiar with this item will chime in,

The crossing gate in question can not be activated via the insulated rail method. NO and NC contacts and a common are needed. See the PDF of the gate wiring on the Lionel site. You need either a 153 contactor or a relay. Activating accessories with relays is described here. There is a diagram of the MTH gate, the Lionel gate is similar.
