I finished painting my fourth Preiser 65602 24-pack of Unpainted Seated People in Yellow.  I have already done 24-packs in Blue, Green and Pink.  The 96 people will go in the Union Pacific Add-on Challenger and Excursion 2-car sets when they arrive at the end of the year.  The fifth color will be lavender/purple, then back to blue for the next five-color sequence.  To date, I have painted over 3,250 People for my passenger cars.

Tomorrow is another day … and another box of 24 people.

Sincerely, John Rowlen

John, gotta ask--what's the birth rate among Preiser people?  Is it higher among the yellow?

I ask because there seemed to be quite a few infants and toddlers in the latest batch of folks.

Bob, Oh yes, a CW80 doesn’t have enough to run it.  Do you have breakers on the output of the KW?

Mark- I had a feeling that was the case. Also I believe the CW puts out a chopped-wave signal which the PS engines may not like. I have a set of fuse holders that I need to put on my buss terminals for track power, haven't worried too much about it till now.

Paul- no photos, hard to drive and take pictures at the same time. Hands-free cell phones while driving in NYS you know

Nice work Mitch- the cats are a trip- I laugh every time Norma is on your layout. We had a Siamese when I was growing up- she would park her butt on my HO layout all the time. The two we have now are not interested.

John- Just keep painting.....

Paul2- the bridges are going to be nice

Jim- going to the dark side with DC are we.......Next thing you know you will be running HO.....

Bob

Shout out to Mike G- hope you are feeling better buddy!

Hey Brian- How goes the reno. When we last checked you had a huge gaping hole in the middle of your layout.

Bob

hello Bob, what I am tearing out is the 2 levels that are below these levels,

on the other side, in the next room.  I threw my back out recently,

so I haven't  gotten any more work done on it lately...

pretty much been on the couch after work when I get home...

Marci surprised me with hair to kinda match the MTH train boxes....

can't wait till she can match the LIONEL boxes...

hopefully will be "back" working on it soon... ouch...

Mike, hope you are feeling better too !!!

Brian, I hope your back heals up soon, and you can start back into the demolition.  Have you seen a chiropractor?  He usually fixes me up, except the one time where I got the bulging disk.  Marci's MTH hair color is similar to what my older daughter does to her hair, except she just get the color on the front.  I never thought about it being MTH color, but her's certainly is.

Lee, the vehicles and NKP engine look great on your layout!

Mitch that engine is cool!  Does it run as good as it looks?

Mike G whats happening?    Aint seen nothing from you in a day or two?  Hope everything is OK.

Not having a great evening.   So I am going to the train room to clear my mind!

Jim

I agree, Jim.  I looked at Mike's profile, and saw he hasn't been on for 2 days.  I didn't see him say anything about going away.  Even when he is busy at the store, he usually pops in to comment on a few posts.

Mike, I hope you are okay!!

Mark he said in a post way back (VERY HARD TO KEEP UP WITH THINGS LATELY!!!) that he had the flu or something similar and wouldn't be doing much for a few days.   Thats got to suck!  UGGGGG

Bob I have been dealing with that battle in my mind ..  Seeing I have tons of HO stuff.   Son says Im a fool for going to O gauge lol

Jim

Jim, Thank you for pointing out Mike was getting the flu.  I missed seeing that one.  Yes it is hard to keep up!!!!  There is so much going on!!

Well I finally sold the last of my HO and N trains last year.  That is all I had from the late '60s until 2012.  Yes trying to cram into this larger, but still not that large room is a chore in O gauge.  Just last evening, the thought crossed my mind that I could do all I want to in HO in this space.  No, I am sticking with O gauge.  I am able to see and handle the trains and buildings so much better than HO.  I will stick with O and make do.

Here is the latest.  I changed the configuration of my first Mianne kit because I can't move a large shelving unit and piano yet.  The piano is going to our older daughter and the shelving unit will go where the piano is, but since we hope they can move into my parent's empty house, we have to wait on moving the piano.  To get the piano out and provide access to the built-in shelves under the windows, I won't be able to use 054 curves in my two level turn-back loops.  But maybe that is a good thing, because it is forcing me to make sure I leave enough space for the access from the steps and garage through to the back door.  I went back looking at my SCARM plans where we used 042 GarGraves curves.  I don't have any engines that can't run on 042, I just hoped to make for better viewing.  I still haven't made any decisions.

The MDF boards are not fastened down yet, but here is the latest idea.  I'm sorry the photograph is dark.  The light coming in the window messed with my phone camera.

Well, I haven't even been downstairs yet today, but I just spent a lot of money on trains. I called Charlie Ro and placed my pre-order for the new Lionel catalog. Four more engines, the oil train, a bunch of tank car 3 packs, some hoppers, and the UP excursion set expansion 2 pack. List was over 5K. Pre-order knocks that down quite a bit.

I owe you, Big Boy. My wife got mad at me last month for spending over 5,000 pesos ($250 US) on a train. I showed her your post, and she now agrees that I was being reasonable.

Wow Vincent!  Great idea!!  All of us who spend a lot less than Elliot can use his post as evidence that we spend little on trains!!

I'm here to run "interference" for you guys. Just show the wives how much worse it could be. I think Brian may also be able to help on this front.

I made some progress with the corner I started, and with the street connecting the upper and lower levels. I put down basic ground cover on the edges of the Homasote that are next to the walls before I put it in place. It just made it easier than having to reach and be fairly precise. After attaching the Homasote, I taped the near edge and ends to form a gentle taper. I’ll continue with the ground cover tomorrow. I’m happy with the look of the ramp between the two levels. I cut some 1/8” hardboard (Masonite), and painted the road surface a flat gray. I’ll paint the rest of the structure Rustoleum Desert Bisque for a concrete look. Maybe I’ll give it a dark wash afterwards. Thanks for looking.

Andy

Mark you change your mind about as much as I do!!  But I cant bring myself to selling my HO trains.  I have a fleet of Chattanooga engines that would make Tyco jealous! LOL   No idea why I liked them so much!

Where I work I am the janitor, the office manager, I take orders and make orders, pay all the bills, provide entertainment for customers, handle all customer relations, balance the checkbook, set up appointments, do the monthly books, do the payroll, and try to move the company into this century. I guess that's why I enjoy the quiet and relaxed nature of model railroading!

Mike G must be really sick.   ugggg.   Too sick to OGR is really bad!

I still like my idea I tell my mailman to leave my packages in my pickup.

Been busy away from the train room for the past week and weekend.   My daughter is finally home after 5 months of "study abroad" in Japan.  Picked her up last Thurs night late, and brought her back to college Friday AM, then home for the weekend.

Anyway, it hit 60 degrees in Boston, MA today.  Decided to get out some of the (30),  Ameri-towne Wall Sections I picked up last week on ebay, and start spray painting, doing multi-color brick work, and sealing with flat clear coat.    I'll post some photos tomorrow, or Thursday.

Also building a set of "open concrete" arches to support a factory over the West Bound Arrival Departure track in the back corner of the layout.    I got all the arches and support beams cut, Phase 1 (front elevation) glued, and I will be rabbet cutting it tonight so I can hide the 1/4 inch luan floor for the building, then tomorrow I can finish gluing the 2 sides of the arch supports at the proper angles as the pad isn't square...

Brian,  So sorry to hear about the back injury.   Having a 40 year history of lumbar spinal disk issues, herniated, bulging and degenerated disks, and one surgery in 2002,  I am a total believer in using "ice packs" as well as ibuprofen and tylenol.   I have 3 ice packs, and have been driving to work with one everyday for the past 9 years.  Hope you get some relief.

Paul:  Read your post and saw what looks like the "Pennsy Stone Block Walls"....  For some color ideas, review the post below.   It includes photos and a pretty detailed set of instructions on colors I used and the steps I took to do it.

No layout time today. A stop at Menards to pick up some lumber. After that had to run errands. But the wood is all set for tomorrow. The tongue and broove is what I use for shelving under the table. Weatherman, opps weatherperson LOL is calling for rain the next two days so that means two days of basement time. Pic.................Paul

Hi guys, I was going to comment on all the work being done here, but I have run out of energy just reading all the great post! Sure has been a lot of great work going on!

As for me I spent 4 hours at the ER last night for them to confirm that yes I do have the flu, and there really isn't anything they can do for me. Was told to just ride it out! Its kicking my butt!

Hope you are all well, and Brian take it easy with your back.

Mike,  Sorry to hear the news about the Flu, but glad you were able to get on the forum and let us know your OK.   Take care of yourself !

Thanks Lee and JGTRH62 for the kind words.    Going back down to the table saw to finish the final cuts and get the Concrete Arch frames done, glued and clamped tonight.

Andy,  the work on the corner looks great.   It may be too late, but I have had luck getting the 1/8" masonite to bend on pretty tight radii, so that I can smooth out the transition on my roads from level to grade.  I end up having to add some more supports underneath the road so that I can pull it down and anchor it with carpenters glue and clamp it so it stays put.

Mike, I’m glad to hear from you, but sorry you have the flu so bad!!  Rest and get well!

John R, that is a bummer about the Santa Fe engine!

Andy, the streets and walls look great.  I always like lots of grade variations!

Chris, the walls look great!

Jim, Yes a big difference being a kid mopping, sweeping, and mowing and an adult with all the seemingly unrelated tasks and hassles they give you!
